These matters should not be brought up unless there wis a formal complaint, so that the party accused could make a defence and vindicate his character. Ile was in tavor of the confirmation at once. Mr. Sargent said in such a case the board should net act in haste, and he was therefore in favor of a postponement of further action for another week, until the matter could be properly inquired into. Mr. Lioyd moved 1 postponement tntil next Monday evening, and that the nomination be made the special order for that time; which Was adopted. Mr. Seinmes, from the joint committee on drainage, reported that the lowest bidder for turnishing water mains for the current year was Henry McArdle, and the lowest bidder for furvishing corporation stop-cocks was Joshua Register, of Baltimore, and he there- fore reported bills authorizing the Mayor to award the contracts to said parties; which bills passed. It appears that Mrs. Sampson lives | near Easby’s ship-yard, and a few days since, Miss Anderson went over to see her, when,a quarre) ensued, and Mrs. Sampson’s husband coming in with his whip in bis hand, the wife seized it and waded into Miss Anderson, whipping her severely. Miss Sampson did not deny using the whip, but justified herselt on the ground that Miss Anderson had called her hard names, which the latter alleged she used because the former accused her of stealing. The Justice held her to bail for court, ee Roneery AND ARRESTS.—Sunday afternoon, officer Britt, of the Second Ward, arrested Chas. Bartlett, upon a charge of stealing one auger and a circular saw from Thomas Morrisett. When taken to the station-house, he accused Noble Magee and Edward Magee as aecom- plices in robbing the store of B. H. Stinemetz, on Saturday night, of 136 huts and 19 military hat cords. He told where the goods were, and the officers proceeded to the bowling saloon of Wm. Magee, on E, between Twelfthand Thir- teenth streets, and found the stolen articles, and took them to the station-house. The two Magees were arresied by Sergeant Reed and patrolmen Bigley and Parker.
