On Sunday night, Col. Baker, Provost Mirenal of the War Depirtment, accompanied by a number of his detectives, started out ow a tour of obseryation, and visited a number of heures, and arrested the proprietors, and all found therein whether regular inmates or guests. Of the latter predominating feature in Gress was Uncle Su:n’s blue, brass buttons and shoulder straps allof whom were taken into custody. An officer wearing the insignia of a Colonel was found in one of the very lowest establisi.ments. This time the Colonel will not anake publicity of the names, but a repetition of the offence will cause their names to be pub- lished to the werld. ee 3 TESTIMONAL DECLINED.—On Satardity after. r of Agriculture, Hen. Mr. Newton, upon being informed of their kind intentions, expressed his sincere regret that his views in reference to presentations of this character were such as must compel him to decline its acceptance, at the same time ex- pressing bis sincere thanks to the ladies for the intended compliment. aS Is THE Wronc Horer..—Last night, Eaw'd Eyeland and Ellen Nuttrell were roving about in search of a room to let, and made a big mis- take, by going up stairs to the rooms of the Young Mens’ Christian Association.
