THE EVENING STAR. . et eee en SS —ae MATTER ON EVERY, PAGB. FOR INTERSTING -TRLE- OTHSR MATTER. ‘ OF BEADING sun @naPuio AND WASHINGTON OITY: W EDNESRAY..... DECEMBER 24, 1862. (wxistuas.— To-morrow being Christmas, no paper will Le issued from this office. oa +hould anything of importance. transpire, however, we shall issue an extra. iT OF THE MORNING PRESS. Figen ote that in view of the fact toa: the President is responsible for the acts of i.e Cabinet, “the recent Senatorial caucas wax not only &n interpolation on our political sys- tem, but, whether so meant or not, & reflection ca the official selfhood of the President, by im- piying that he enstsined something less than the dignity and independence of his office.” The Chronicle publishes the report of the com- waittee on the conddet of the war in relation to tne Fredericksburg affair, and comes to the conclusion that nobody was to blame, but that wesimply had bad Inck. . The Republicen fears disaster to the Union | army in the Southwest, and advise: the con- ee ntration of the forces there under Gen.Grant, who, the Republican cltims “is the only Union «+emeral who, as yet, presents satisfactory cre- dentials, and is the superfor of any General that the Rebels can boast. _———EE ITS FOREIGN ASPROT Puring the recent Cabinet imbrozlio, we beard, from more than one well informed source, of the serious solicitude felt and ex- pressed by the ministers of the warions foreign Powers as to the futere of our country. The ngmation of the Secretarf of State under such circnmstance+ was generally pronounced to be the begivaing of the disruption of the Grovernment—a disruption which, in all revo- lutions, commences with faction and divided coancils, and ends in chaotic ruin. When the gloom was inereased by the announcement of the resignation of the Secretary of the Treasury, whose services were felt to be not less indis- pensable in his Department than those of the + cretary of State in hi-, this view of atvairs ‘was strongly confirmed. : That the tontemplated chaage in the Cabinet | ~ would have been so regarded atevery European Court, there is little reason to donbt. What new schemes of intervention would have been beilt upon it, and how far they would hav. been successful, who can tell? Fortunate! this additional trial of our national strength has been averted, and the steamer of to-day wiil take out the intelligence that the Amrican Government, in circumstances under which many another government has succambed, htt only displayed new pyoof of her stability. It is due to the Foreign Ministers to s@y that we ane informed and believe that their con- gratalations ubon the judicious action of the President are not less sincere than those of our own citizens. SA Rebel Colonel, A. W. Jones. was re- ceutly captured in Arkansas. _He was the Pro- vost Marshai General of the «Tran: issis- sippi District." He describes the army in Ar- kansas as in & most wretched condition. In the language of his negro servant (who was with him,) they just got plenty of nothing.” He states that Tisins and Parsons have been ousted. Frost commands Parsons’ Division, and is in bad repute. Provisions had become #o scarce that General Hindman had issued an order for all familics trom Mis:onri to at once return.
