(Per Telegraph from Baltimore } Batrimore, April 39 (from Fortress Monroe, April 29).—The flag of truce from Norfolk to-day brought down the wife and family of Parson Brownlow, and also Mrs. Meynard, wife of Mr. Maynard, the member of Congress—the party consisting of four ladies, two gentlemen, and six children—all from Tennessee. They bring a re port that all the Union families of Tennessee have been ordered, by proclamation, to leave within 36 hours. Eighteen bundred Union men left for Kentucky a week ago last Friday. Of a party cf 400 attempting to leave, 100 had been killed There cen be ngdoubdt of the capture of New Orleans. The southern newspapers speak of it in 2 most dismal strain, and demand that the mys- tery of the surrender of the city shall be ex- plained. The Day Bock (Norfolk) in an editorial says that the fall of New Orleans is by far tbe most eerious reverse of the war. ‘-It suggests (it de- clares) great future privations to all classes of | Society; but most to be lamented of all, it threst- ens army supplies’ ‘The raising of meat and bread, instead of cotton and tobacco, is earnestly recommended by the disoonsolate editor. The Richmond Dispatch of yesterday says that when the enemy’s (Union) fleet arrived op- posite the city,Gen. Lovell refused himself to urrender it, and fell back to Camp Moore, after col- | destroying the cotton and stores. The iron-clad Mississippi was burat to prevent ber from falling into the hands of the enemy. Nothing was said about the Louisiana, but it is supposed she was scuttled. Rumor saysshe was sunk at the first fire. Camp Moore Is at Tangipature, 73 miles from New Orleans, on the railroad to Jackson, Miss The following are the latest dispatches in to- day’s Virginia paper: “«Mosire, April 27.—The Yankee Commodore Farragut promised the Mayor's Secretary, who visited the fleet by a flag of truce, to make a re- newed demand for the surrender of the city, but had not done so up to this hour—S o’clock. Our ship, the McRae, came up from the forts under a fiag of truce, with forty of our wounded, who communicated with the Federal flag-ship, but the result is unknown. It ts rumored that the Federals refused to permit her to return. The rumor that Fort Pike had been evacuated and blown up is unreliable. in a conference heid with one of the Federal officérs, after the correspondence between Mayor Monroe and Commodore Farragut, the officer left, declaring he would shoot down the flag on the City Hall if not hauled down; and actusily brought his ship within range, but has not fired thus far. It is reported that French and English men-of- war are below, and have entered their protests against shelling the city. it Is believed the Yankee vessels are shori both of provisions and ammunition. The city (New Orleans) is remarkebly orderly, but the excitement Is immense, and the feeling of humiliation deep. * Richmonp, Aoril 2° —The following official dispatch was received this morning by Adjutant General Cooper, trom Gen Lovell, dated Camp Moore, April 27: “ Forts Jackson and St Phillip are still In good condition and tn our bands. The stezmers Louls!- ana snd McRen are safe. The enemy’s fleet are at the city, but they have not forces to ereney: it The Inhab' nts are staunchly loyal.’ ““ MosiLe, April2S — The fortson Lake Pont- chartrain were ell evacuated cn the 25th. We have sustained considerable joss in supplies and dismantling, but not destroying our guns at Fort Pike. All the buildings were burned, including the telegraph office, and the operator has gone to the limits of the city to open an office, if possible. All our gunboats on the Lake have been burat by our own people. The Mobile bosts, Whitman Brows end several others, are running troops, stores, and ordnance to Monachock; after which, we fear, they will be burnt. Were at Ship Island, and are again returning to The Yankee fleet that station.” ' In a local article headed ‘The Markets,” the Norfolk Day Book mentions that there is a very small supply of edibles exposed for sale there, and says it becomes a question of grave momeat as to where and how the people ate to be fed. The death of Samuel B. Todd, the brother of Mrs. Lincoln, 1s announced. He died on the battle. field, from effects of wounds, at Shiloh, in the 7th of April action.
