A Case yor THE Benxzvovrnt —The dead bedy of a man was discovered In the city canal, newt New Jersey avenue bridze, yesterday morn- ing, by 8 boy who was passing along the towing th. It wus taken from the water, and a jary of inquest was summoned by Jnstice Jounson, acting for the coroner. [t was disclosed in the evideoce that the name of the deceased was Scanlan; that since the death of bis wife, about two months since, he bas been drinking to excess; and that he left home about a week ago, since which time his whereabouts have not been known. It is supposed that be fell into the canal ‘walle Intoxicated, and was drowned or suffocated in the mud. He leaves 2 family of helpless children, the eldest six years, end the youngest six months old. The jury returned a verdict of accidental drowning.
