Mr. Tenney moved that the session be held with closed doors; which motion was a the room clea: The reporters present bun up their ‘ fixins’’ and moved off with the crowd ata “‘doule quick.”’ Before going to press we learn that the Board rmanently organized by the election of Richard Wemacb, Esq.. President, J. F. Brown, Treasu- rer, and Thomas A. Lazenby, (of Georgetown,) Clerk. The Board adjourned after organizing, without electing any other officers. [It is understood that there were twenty to thir- ty applicants for the Clerkship from Washington and but ene from Georgetown—all good men; and that the Commissioners from that city beving yielded the President, Treasurer, and Chief of Police to Washingten demanded the Clerk, and the Board acquiesced} Minirary Faeionr —Never has our city wit- nessed such a tide of cattle, horses, and freight, as is now pouring into Washington by rail and water. Immense cargoes of military stores, &c , arrive daily at our wharves from Philadelphia and New York, while the stream that pours in at the depot is almust ceaseless. One burden train bas barely ot out of the wey before another comes thunder- ng in, and it is frequently the case that the switches are so filled up that trains are compelled to stand upon the main track and discharge their loads at considerable distances from the depot, and then, without turning the engine, back the cars to Baltimore. Droves of horses and cattle, parks of artillery, munitions of war, grain. bay, and al! the requisites for the support of a grand ermy, flood through the gates or across the plain, ‘while army wagons crawi in among the mountains of freight and ambulances go ‘‘bobbing around”’ in every direction. Yesterday thirty car loads of cattle in one train, a large drove of horses, together with freight, arrived, notwithstanding the bad ‘weatber A guard is much needed to protect the bay which !s deposited along the track and imme- diately surrounded by hogs and cattle, which luxuriate in fine timothy at the expense of ‘Uncle Sam,” in an alarming manner. More is wasted than eaten in this way, and a bale of hay very soon disappears Weitz Hovsz —Improvements are constant! being added to the conveniences of this establish- ment, and under the vigilant care of its superin- tendent kept in excellent order, notwithstanding the droves of meddiesome urchins who swarm like files about the premises. Yesterday a lore number of visitors inspected the institution. and the decision of all was *capital,” ‘just the thing,” while all wondered that no such provision bad beea made before. In addition to the splendid baths, wash troughs have been arranged open tue platform along the side of the building, into which Potomac water bas also been introduced, thereby affording ample accommodations for troops to wash, without running about after a basin or quarreling around a pump. At first the army of cake and milk venders was legion, and there was apparently no checking the istent merchants, whp beset every door and corner, anxicus to minister to the wants of the “dear sogers."? The superintendent posted a few “ reg- ulars”’ thereabouts, who very soon opened the eyes of the throng to a proper regard for order. Sunpay Sport tn Soap ALLEY —Soap alle ° into G and H, between Sixth and Sevent! prs. It will be a place deserving the especial attention of the new police when on duty. Rewtzr Fuxp.—While the Northern cit!es are oviding sustenance and comforts for the needy milies of volunteers. we regret to see that nosuh steps have been taken berefaside from the action of the municipal authorities and the benevolence of private individuals This bas not arisen, how- ever, from any lack ofsympatby for the defenders of our Capital, but has resulted from a want of © action. Many of our most wealthy and influential citizens are ready and anxious to give liberally for such an object, and would enzage heartily in any movement for the relief of ke farailies of our soldiers, many of whom are in de- pendent circumstances, were the initiative steps once taken.
