Prenklix Wilson, of Baltimore, presiding, and A. Fuller Crane, Eeq., performing his duties as secretary. Rending the letters from the churches and aux- iliary societies occupied some time, showing har- mony and_success througbout the bonds of the seciety. The new Island church, Washington, at eed increase, thirty-nine members etm b The association next proceeded to the election of permanent officers, when, by a large vote Mr. Wilson wes re-elected moderator. He rosé and acknowledged the em poy but owing to the state of his health, and other duties, positively declined. Another ballot showed the election of Rev. Geo. F. Adams, of Baltimore. That ¢! = man was at once escorted to the chair, and briefly acknowledged his appreciation of the honor. He remarked that la the twenty-four years he had en- joyed the pleasure of being present at every meet- t ing A. To-day —The Association met this morning at ll e’clock. An eloquent address was delivered to the ministers upon the subject of giving their special personal attention to the teaching of the ebildren in the Sabbath school, by Rev. Dr. McDowell, of Baltimore, which was attentively listened to. WanTON AssaULt BY TWo MARINES UPON TWO EetimaBce Citizens—They Commit Assault and Battery and Highway Rovbery —On last Satur- day night, two U out ane a Matthew Wilson and George }, comm || aa un voked attack upon Mr. Richard Hanson, a clerk in the War Department, as be was walking home about 9% o'clock. They met Hanson at the cor- net of Third street east and Pennsylvania avenue, and walking upto him ina menacing attitude seized hold of him. He beld up bis walking stick by either end, and placing it against the breast of Sales pushed him off, wheu Sales re- newed the attack by wresting the cane from Han- son's grasp and beating him severely therewith, while W assisted with bis fists and feet Leaving Hanson they now proceeded to the house vf Mr. James T. Ball, near by, and knocked at the door Ball came to the door with a stick in his hand, and as soon as he bad opered the door Sales seized bis stick and attacked him with it, striking a number of severe blows, and wind!: up hg Poa a grab at Ball’s watch chain, pi ing his watch valued at $75, from bis pocket, and ruaning off withit. Very fortunately, offi Irving and Bird came along at this crisis and ar- rested thetwo ruttians, but they resisted the officers so desperately that the assistance of several citt- z2ms was required before they could be taken to Justice McKenna’s office, they fighting and re sisting Ina forious mancer way. They were taken by the direction of the magistrate to the guardhouse on Capitol Hill, where they were kept all night, and on the following morning an exar ination was held, which resulted in ir being committed to jal on three several carges each to await the action of the Criminal Court. Srrert Brocans —A few days ago, a respect- able merchant, carrying on an extensive bus.ness on the east side of Seventh st., and whose custom- ers are principally ladies, made the inquiry, with much earnestness, of one of our police magistrates: ‘‘Isthere no law of thiscity, prohibiting street begging and vagrancy within our corporate lim- its? On being answered affirmatively, the mer- chant quickly rejoined : ‘Then why is not such law strictly enforced?” He then further remarked: “it grievous nuisance, a serious hindrance to bosiness; and the ladies who frequent my store, as well as myself and assistants, are much annoyed by it. These beggars follow ladies on the street and into the stores with piteous and persistent ap- peals for money, so as almost tocompel relief. Indeed, so impudent are these mendicants that they not unfrequently become fnsolent and abu- sive if bar Bre. not promptly relieved, and to the extent of their ex tions.’ Now, in view of this serious evil, it is suggested to the Mayor and Chief of Police that instructions should be forth- with issued to all police officers to enforce the city ordinance providing that -‘ all persons found beg- xing or drunk In or about the streets, all vagrants 2nd persons having no visible means of snpport,”’ shell be arrested and sent to the workhouse, un- leas they give the required security Tue Concert at Willards’ Hall last evening was highly acceptable to the brilliant end critical audience assembled, as was testified by the plau- dits which greeted each artiste in turn. The ro was well selected, and could not have been arranged so a8 to afford greater enjoyment to the audience, nor a more excellent teat of the merits of the several singers. Mad. Fabbri was received with much euthnsiasm, and throughout the concert more than justified the great expecta- tions that had been formed concerning her extra- ordinary talents, by our Stigelll, always good, never sang in better voice nor with reater effect than last night. Carl Formes, with Sis tich tones of teemendous power, astonished as well as pleased, His low notes in the **Wan- derer”’ rolled through the hall with precisely the same effect as that produced by the sub-bras of a first-class church organ. Each artist in turn was encored. Mad. Fabbri in the exquisite Fabbri Polka, Formes in the aria from the Magic Flute, and Stigelli in the Dream of Home; and the andi- ence hee en snd appreciative. Mr. Muider formed a number of pretty pieces on the piano, and accompanied the singers in good taste.
