UF" The Military Institute, at Culpeper C. H., Va_, was sold on Thursday last to E. B. Smith & pwn vines, and he deseribes the vines as being vigorous growers and constant bearers, pre- ducing a round berry moreor less colored, ac- vording to exposure, and adds that they are decidedly the best native grape he had ever cultivated. No. 2 contains slips taken by himself from two distinct and separate vines of a native white grape raised by a Indy of that town. ‘The berries, he mentions, are round, middle- sized, slightly colored, and are said to be far superior to any native grape in that section. Their flavor is excellent, and different from that of any other grape that he ever remem- bers tasting. As will be pereeived from the s, the vines of this grape are not vigor- ous growers, but that may be from the faet of their not being placed in proper soil to test that point. All attempts made to propagate these vines have fuited. No. 3 contains two bundles, the largest taken from the Contooeook grape wine, as it is called. ‘This grape is represented as being round; and ulihough eatled white is, when much exposed to the direct rays of the sun, a pale purple.
