THE WAKEFIELD BOOKS AND ADDRESS it will be remembered by the readers of the Star that in 1856 the citizens of the town of Wakefield, Kagland, sent a rumeronsly signed address to the city of Washington, manifesting an earnest desire for the continuance of peacefo and friradly relations with the United States. It was ordered by the City Council of Washington that a responsive address and certain books of the Corporation handsomely bound should be forwarded in return. and $50 were appropriated to pay the expense of binding, &c he subject came up in December last, and a doubt as to the reception of the books by the citizens of Wake- field was expressed. PLACES AND STRERTS The Aldermen’s amendment to the joint reso- lution naming certain streets, substituting places fer streets, coming up, it wes objected that it was not usual in Parts to call streets places. It wonld be well enough to eall the square on which tue. Jackson statue stands a place, bat not the streets ou each side It was argued in repiy that as Mrs Madison had so leng resided on one of those streets, it Was proper to name it after her husband; ‘but there is a Madison street already, and to avoid confusion it is now ie to call one Jackson Place und the other Madison Place. Tue amend ment was concurred in, and those streets are now “places.” — Mauiexant Postere.—The occurrence of three deaths by malignant pustule, in Provi- dence.
