Yesterday morning, a United States warrant was issued against John Medar and his daughter on the charge, by Antonio Heitmuller, of stealing vegetables from his stand in the Northern Liber- ties Market-house. The les were arrested and brought before the justice; but the eviden: the prosecuting witness, who attem: to fden- tify certain stalks of celery and of cabbage by marks of natural decay upon them, was not considered sufficient by the mayistrate, especially after calling a number of table deale:s from the market, who swore that it was impossible to identify vegetables unless by the mannerin which they had been cut: so the case was dismissed. Medar, on being dismissed, threatened to behead Heitmuller, who thereupon had him bound over to keep the peace. About tweuty warrants have been issued during the present month at this office—and the cases are now pendinzg—ngainst boys of all ages for disor- derly conduct, such as throwing stones, playing bandy, and other unlawful games in the public streets. F. Stansbury, Esq , corresponding secretary and chairman of the committee of managers of the Metropolitan Me- chanics’ institute ; Joixt Resotvtion granting the use of the west portion of Judiciary Square to the Metropoli- tan Mechanics’ Institute, for the purpose of holding a National Exhibition thereon. Whereas, The Board of Managers of the Me- tropolitan Mechanics’ Institute, purpose to hold, io ay, i960, a national exhibition of works of Amerfean arts and industry; and whereis the managemen* of xaid Iustitute Lave asked per- mission of this Corporation for the use of the west portion of Judiciaty Square for the purpose of erecting buildings for said Purpose. Be it therefore— Resolved, §c., That the Board of Management of the Metropolitan Mechanics Institute be, and they are hereby permitted to use and cecupy so much of the west portion of Judiciary Square as tay be required for the purpose of erecting build- ings, &c , suitable for the objects of said exbibi- tion, and that they be permlited the use of the same for two years from the time of their exbilyi- tion. Provided, That the buildings Proposed to be erected shail meet theapprobation of the Pres- ident of the United States, and shall be so con- structed as not to detract from the appearance of the neighborhood, and shall be painted or white- washed. Court oF CLaims.—Yesterday, Judge Black- ford delivered the opiaion of the Court in the case of Francis R. Tillon and another, surviving executors of Henry Eckford, deceased, vs. The United States. The claim was for rent for the use of certain lands by the United States; and the Court decided that the claimants have shown no cause of action. Judge Loring delivered the opinion of the Corrt in the case of Richard Goodman ts. The United States. The Court decide that he has not made wut a case showing that he is entitled to relief. Judges Blackford and Scarburgh delivered opinions adverse tu the claim of Henry W. Morris vs. The United States. The claim is to recover @ certain balance of pay which the claimant alleges to be due to bim as a captain in the navy of the United States. Judge poly dissented from the above opiuions Judge Loring delivered the opinion of the Court adverse to the claim of Almanzon Huston vs. The United States, growing out of a mail contract. ‘The Court then proceeded to consider the case of the heirs of Dr Jas Thatcher vs. The United States, and J. J. Coombs, Exq , opened the ar- gament in behalf of the petitioner. Upon the conclusion of his remarks, the Court adjourned.
