ANNUAL MEBTING OF THE BALTIMORE AND Onto Raitroap Company.—The annual meet- ing of the stockholders of the Baltimore and Obio Railroad Company was held in the Direc- tors’ room, Camden Station, Baltimore, yester- day morning. The meeting was organized by ra arr Mr. Wm. M’Kim President and Mr. J Atkinson Secretary. The Annual Report of the President and Directors was presented and read by the Secretary. The — is clear, comprehensive, and, in view of the condition of the country during the past year which has so seriously affected the revenues of ull the great railroad lines, we pre- sume satisfactory. The gross earnings of the main stem bave been $3,857,485.79, being a de- crease of $760,513 16, compared with the preced- ing year; but maintaining an increase over the fixeal year of 1555 of $145,031 M. The expenses of working the main stem, and of keeping the road and machinery in repair, have amounted to $2,531,199 29, being 65 63 per cent. upon the gross earnings, an increase, compared with the pre- vious year 5.54 per cent. The decrease in the gross earnings is to be found in the falling off of the way travel, and in the stoppage of the coal trade, and in the reduced tariff at which the coal transportation bas been done. Inthe through merchandise, flour and stock trade, there has been an increase sutficient to compensate for all deficiences, ld that of the coal trade. ‘The revenue of the Washington branch for the fiscal year has amounted to $169,122 92, showing an increase of $11,963 G3 over the previous year, and the expenses to $202,453 61, being 434 per cent, leaving net 2266,969.29° This road pe paid a dividend of nine percent , on its capital stock during the past year. The revenue of the Northwestern Virginia or Parkersburg branch for the fiscal year has amounted to $233,001 05, and the working expenses to $253,252.79, or 102 12-10 per cent. The Company has, therefore, received no compensation for the use of motive and rolling stock with which tbe road is worked This result. however, has been caused by large expenditures necessary to complete and put the road in order, and it is expected that the expend- itures for the coming — Will be materially less and the financial result more encouraging. The Marietta and Cinginnati road, now improved ard operating suecessfully, with the completion of a braneb road from Scott’s Landing down to Park- ersburg, giving a rail connexion only broken by aferry at the Ohio river, is also expected to throw a large increase of traffic over the Pat kerx- burg branch. The aggregate revenue of the main stem, Washington branch, and Northwestern Virginia road, amounts to $1,573,912.77. being a deciease fiom the preceding year of $571,920 29 A gratifying cireumstance connected with the road, and a most important event in the history of the Company, is the completion of the arching of every tunnel on the main stem from Baltimore to Wheeling. In a significant and important sense, the great work upon which Baltimore bas expended so much of her means and enterprise may now be said to be completed. Phe increase of its commerce and the expansion of its busi- ness interests with the interior may hereafter call for an extension of the facilities of the road, an auzmentation of its working power, or an increase of the double track; but the rod Itself, in all its “reat essentials, is now a finished work, its gili- ciency, safety and permanency increased, and a source of continual anxiety and accumulated ex; nse removed. The floating debt of the Company, which at the commencement of the year exceeded one million of dollars, has been reduced to $284,65: will be l:quidated at an early period. Tre port concludes with the expression ot a decided cou- yiction on the oe of the Board that, with proper maneye ment, the payment of cash dividends may be resumed i, Spril next No ather bieiness peing ted, the meeting praceeded tu the eléctton of twelve stockholder directors fyr tbe ensuing year.
