This morn , the prised. by the recei T A a charges paid) of a massi (3 by 2% feet) enclosing a of regiment. The ng is executed and pr on by a master band, Hiram Dixon, Enq., of New York, and would easily deceive most persons as to its having been executed by a cop- per plate engraver. It reads as follows : Heap Quarters, Sev Nationat @ Ds. ToMesers.(T]P.§ M Brown, Washington,DC. ‘The undersigned, baving been directed by res- olution ef the board of officers to make suitable acknowledy ments, on behalf of the regiment, for the many acts of courtesy and kindness extended tous on the occasion of our late visit to Rich- mond and Washington, find jt a iost difficult duty to convey, in any adequate sense, the dee; impressions that have been made upon our hear! by the warm and varied bospivalities extended to us at every point and by all with whom we came in contact—each vieing with the other to treat ux more like brothers than strangers from a different State; but among all the acts of kindness suown us, none bax afforded us greater pleasure, and, at the same time, proved so ditticult of acknowledg- ment, as yourown runificent hospitality in quar- tering at your splendid house, without charge, nearly one balf of the Regiment, free from all re- straint ; and providing for all their ‘wants, with 2 liberality as unequalled as it was unexpected As often as we sball recur to the pleasures of our trip. and the acts of hospitality everywhere ex- teaded to us, none will have left deeper sel per sion than your own; and each one of us will feel but too happy in an opportunity of personally testifying our appr tion of them. That the largest ure of bappiness and suc- cess may be in store for you is the sincere wish of every officer and member of the National Guard. Marswatt Leeve-rs, Lt. Col, Il. C. New Yorg, July, sss Tue Turatre —Buckstone’s celebrated and skillfally constructed drama of Geen Bushes or The Huntress of Mississippi, in which Madame Celeste so largely added to her fome, was last night rendered with exceedingly tine effect. Miss Maggie Mitchell's | aceeapraree of Miami, was an ell-ctive and highly Picturesque effort, which largely increased in the estimation of the fall audience present—her honorable reputation as an artiste of unlimited versatility. ts. Tay- leure as Nelly, won largely upon the sympathies of her audience, as did Dawson in the comic character of Master Grunnidge Indeed, the en- tire ye was given with an eifect very creditable to all concerned. To-nizht 2 new and peculiarly etf-ctive come- dy, entitled The Wild Irish Girl, is on the bill, together with the amusing farce of Nature ts. Philosophy. To-morrow night Mixs Mitchell takes ber farewell benefit. On Friday evening, Mr. Dav- idve, an English comedian of bigh repute, will make bis first appearance in our city. Tue PLasteRer’s Batt —The Ball of the As- sociated Plasterers, last evening, was a decided success. The management was excellent, and, throughout the entire night, no single event took place that lessened the pleasure or interrupted the harmony of the large company. The scene of festivity was the commodious saloon of the Washington Assembly Rooms Beside the plas- terers, a large number of their friends, including @ full representation from the “art preservative of ali art”? were present, and took rt in the dances. As miybt have been expected the ladies responded to the Invitation of the Plasterers, in large numbers ; and the Ball was graced by many of the most beautiful belles from all sections of the city. The music was excellent, the arrange- ments were complete and ample, and altogether the affair went off so pleasantly that few who participated in last night's enjoyment will forget the plasterers the next time they announce a bull More aBovut THosE Water Pipgs —Numer- ous complaints are being made by merchants along Pennsylvania avenne of the damage done to their goods by the failure of some parties (who they are we ken not,) to remove the surplus dirt after filling the excavations made for the re- ception of the water pipes. This surplus earth, by eontinnous driving over it, becomes reduced to a very fine powder, which the least breath of air conveys into people’s houses, where it finds a lodyment in and on every article of farniture, ix driven into cupboards among the dishes, and there it adheres beyond the utmost efforts of housekeepers to remove it. But the worst dam- age effected by this dust is in the stores of our dry goods merchants, where it plays sad havoc among fine goods, laces, silks, ete , which it sbortly ruins, for no amount of sweeping and brushing can dislodge it ‘his nuisance ts a se- rious one, and measures should be taken, by those who have the laviny of the water Pipes, for abating it. Tur Ovrpoor Concerts seem to be forgotten entirely by those who nsed to attend them so in- «dustriously at the beginning of the summer, and should there be no better audiences in futare than the Marine Band have had lately, they might as well be discontinued for all the pleasure they af- ford to the public. The concert in the Capitol Grounds on last Saturday evening was attended by an audience of five little girls and one boy, beside the officers of the grounds. The leader of the band was anxious to be dismissed before the performance began, and made application to the Chief of the Capitol Police to kuow if that func. tionary had not the power to postpone the per- formance for the remainder of the season; but as that obliging official had no authority in the premises the programme had to be gone through witb, which was done in a very admirable man- ner, to the no small delectation of the aforesaid five little girls and one boy. It is stated that the band epoca much better than at any previous time this year. This was the unanimous decision of those present. FPunreat.—On yesterday afternoon the remains of Mr. Jadson Warner were committed to the tomb. The funeral procession, which started from his late residence, in Georgetown, was ac- companied bya large crowd of the friends of the deceased, who wax widely Known and much re- spected in both cities of the District. The fune- ral escort was made up as follows : Washington Light Infantry, Capt. Davis, (Withers’ Band ;) Georgetown City Guards; Friendship Lodge No ROOF, EB Dongtas, marshal, (E«pu- ta’s Rand J The sad procession wound through the streets of Georgetown and out to Oak Hill, where, with appropriate ceremonies, the body was coumitted to ils narrow cell to sleep its last long sleep.
