As for the South. that seztion of the Con- federacy, at least, fully comprehends the extent of his treachery to the Democratic party, as well as the danger to its own future peace and equality in the Union to be consequent upon his triumph. Far better will it be for the fu- ture of the South and the unity of the National Democracy, if Senator Douglas be defeated by Lincoln. who dves not fight either Democracy or the South from behind a masked battery of professions, which, all with brains must com- prehend, are resorted to only to enable him to deceive more easily, and are therefore wholly unworthy of confidence. We learn this morning that the difficulty among the captains of the boats aud the coal companies at Cumberland bas been settled. by the boatmen seceding from their position and consenting to transport the coul down at the former rate of freight—$1.15 per ton. We have rarely, if ever, known new wheat so backward coming in. As yet but one or two lots have been offered in the market. We have heaid several reasons assigned for the delay, by those who profess to understand the working of such matters. One is that the crop is very sbort that the farmers have turned their attention en- tirely to their other crops, leaving the getting of it out for market to be attend: d to when an idle time shall arrive; and another is, that most of them are unwilliug to sell at the present rate of prices, and are holding back in bope of an ad- vance. We incline to the belief tbat the latter reason is nearest to the truth.
