On motion of Mr. Miller, the Board went into the election of officers for the ensuing year. I submit to the Councils that events have proved this force inadequate to the public wants. in my judgment it should be im- auediately augmented, and so erzanized ax to prove a terror to all evil disposed persens, ana secure the confidence of the entire community. Mr. Watlace moved that when the Board ad- journ it be till Monday at 4 o’ciock; passed And the Board adjourned noon, have concluded to postpone the affair. The condition of the atmosphere and the streets make this a necessity the more » because the coming repetition was proposed in order to give the community an opportnaity to witness a pro- cession of the Order under favorable surround- ings. The streets are in no fit condition for» procession, and a damp atmosphere would be unwholesome for the many ladies that grace the Levee. The committee have done a wise thing in submitting to the clerk of the weather, who, though he holds no position in the Order, is cer- tainly with bis changing fancies and whims one of the oddest fellows we know. Tarascry ExtRNsioNn.—Since the Ist of May, at which time a large number of the hands en- gaged on the works were discharged on account of the appropriation being nearly exhausted, the New Treasury has progressed very slowly. On the west front the work was entirely abandoned, and yet awaits the action of Congress on the Civil and Miscellaneous biti, to be resumed. A limited number of hands have been retained on the south wing, and the progress of that portion of the A SERENADE.-—The Indianians in Washington turned out en masse on Saturday night, with Esputa’s celebrated band, to serenade their Sen- ators, Messrs. AccIDENT —Yesterday, a youth named Powere, who lives on Fifth street, near Seaton’s Garden, shot himself in the face while handling a pistol on the commons north of the city. Miss Milver was perfectly enchanting as the unfortanate Lucia, a part that demonstrated her musical abilities fully, and must have convinced all within the house of her superlative merits as an actiess. Nothing could have more forcibly shown the pathetic richness of her tones, than tn the songs “See these cheeks so pale,’ and “Shed thou one tear of sorrow,” the rendering of the latter calling forth her hest dramatic powers, which were well taxed and most artistically sus- tained tiroughout. Dusing the entire perform- ance Miss Milner had the entire audienne at her command ; while sbe sung, the silence was pro- found, and at the close of each Piece the walls ah ith thunder-toned applause which fre- qr bronght from the fair enchantress a viatefal response. Anotner OvtRace.—On yesterday morning, a detachment of the rowdies that infest the city committed a dastardly outrage at Berry's Grove, where resides Mr. Thos. C. Magruder, pay clerk of the Washington Aqueduct. ‘The lady of Mr. Magruder were insulted as the pasted on their way tochurch. Continuing on their course, the band of vagabonds came close on to the residence of Mr. Magruder, shouting and being very noisy Mr. M. told them to go off, when he was imme- diately attacked with a volley of stones and pis- tol shots.
