LOCAL INTELLIGENCE. To Apvertisens tN ALEXANDRIA.—Mr. Geo. E. French, in Alexandria, will receive and Promptly forward advertisements intended for The Star. Those in Alexandria desiring to avail themselves of its immense etrculation to bring their business, wunts or other requirements tothe Botice of the public bad better calj at bis period- ical depot is, at noon to-day, & source of universal giatulation that the Peace of the city remajus undisturbed, and that voters ex- ercise the elective franchise freely, withoat let or hindrance. Order reigns, and few places are more quiet than the vicinity of the Polis in the several precincts. The excitement of the past Week now exhibits itself only in the earnest yet entirely peaceful efforts of the friends of the can- didates to show at the polis their full strength. Save that Pennsylvania avenue is less thronged, and the streets usually quiet show more passers, the generat aspect of the city is unchanged. A special policeman, witb his badge, or a squad of (he mounted men burrying on their patrol from precinct to precinet, give evidence of the power of the authorities to preserve unimpaired the rights of the voters and the majesty of the law, and at the polls the disposition is universal to render the interference of the police entirely un- necessary. We regret that towards noon the peaceful state of affairs depicted above. was Interrupted by the rioting in the Fourth end Fifth Wards described below. Below we give detailed reports of the move- ments at each precinct of the seven Wards, fur- nished by our corps of reporters, and giving a concise history of the morning : First Warp. jood order —— at both precincts of the First Ward. The Commissioners lost count, and we are unable to state the number of Votes polled At the Second Precinct, the quiet of the morn- ing was only interrupted once, when a man named Sbeat Burch came on the ground with a number of companions. and pushed himself into the Line of voters Hr was, however, soon per- suaded to leave for other quarters. At noon the polling alley was empty, 330 votes had been polled, and voters were coming in quite slowly. Fovustu Warp. In the coud Preciuct of the Fourth Ward, (City Hall,) the voting was characterized, up to ital m., by universai yood nature on all sides— the only excitement which was manifested being that occasioned by the eagerness of all to deposit their votes. We dod not hear a loud shout nor an angry word, up to Il o'clock a.m , nor did we discover a single drunken mau at any one of the precincts. In passing through the most crowded districts, we noticed, with pleasure, that every Preparation was made to enforce the peace ia case of @ possible riot. ‘The restaurants on Pennsy!- eania avenue were all closed, except one. as far as we could find out ‘The mounted police were constantly passing from one precinct to another, on the look-out for any disturbance. and weil prepared to compe! a preservation of the peace. At the First Precinet of the Fourth Ward the Voting was rapid and quiet The special police Were out in full force, and the best order prevail- ed. At an early hour an attempt was made by an wgly crowd to mix up with the voters in the line, but the exertions of the specials put an instant stop to it, and the discomtited rowdies sucaked uietly off About 2 m., Mr. WC. The special police were pleutifaliy ersed among the voters. Detachments of the Marstal’s special mounted posse were to be seen bovering around the different precincts In the Second Precinet of this Ward a man named Ailen, who has been mon est inventus last summer, on account of an unlawful ap- riacion of Government copper at the Capitol cxtension, came to the polls and smuggled bim- Self as far as the window before he was recog: ized. Wishing to avoid a scene the two voters turned about and left. We did not leara to what particular crowd those gentry belonged nor what was the politica! fuiti of the two voters Later.—About half after eleven, a large crowd of disordeilies came by the First Precinct polis, and attampted to create a disturbance, but were deterred by the extra police and citizens from a coasummation of that object.
