The name of the individual who was shot a few days since upon the line of the Washington Aqueduct, was Thomas Gretty. After he was shot, the clerk of Mr. Allen brought the body to our city, and had prepared, at the establishment ot J. F. Burch, a neat coffin, into which the body was placed, and sent on to Philadelphia, where he formerly resided, accompanied by bis wife and one child. The evidence before the inquest in view of the body was to the effect that Gretty had been discharged from the employment of Messrs Allen and Carr; after which he went into the office of Mr. Allen for some pur ; a quar- rel ensued, Gretty rushed upon Allen, who seized a loaded pistol lying near by, with which to de- fend himself; Gretty seized him, and in the scuf- fle the pistol was either tired or went off acci- dentally; killing Gretty, as heretofore stated After hearing the evidence the jury of inquest returned a verdict of accidental shooting.
