Editor of the Star: Knowing you to hea “bright, particular Star’? in point of befriending the fair daughters of Eve, I have the pleasure of sending you the very firs: copy of the Deciaration of Independence written and adopted at the convention for the rights of women in New York city on the Mth day of March, 1855. We are giad to see our fair belligerents at last state their grievances so clearly that there can be no doubt as to their nature. We may now ex- t to see them speedily redressed, for even he most reckless of the offending sex would not willingly incur the enmity of the strong- minded. ASrap Gazer. Declska tion oF INDEPENDENCE OF THE STRONG Mixpgp. W hen in the course of human events it becomes politic for strong-minded women to dissolve the relations in which they have stood to the lords of creation, and assume among the powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which they feel themselves entitled, a proper respect to the opinions of the rest of women kind, requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to the separation. We bold these truths to be self-evident, that women are created superior to men; that they are endowed with certain rights, such as having their own way, &c.; to secure these rights pet- ticoat government was instituted among men, deriving its best effect from the unconsciousness of the men governed; that when this form of government no longer answers its end, it is the right of women to abolish it and institute ano- ther. laying its foundation on the Caudle princi- ples rudence indeed will dictate that yovern- ments once established should not be changed for lightand trivial causes: accordingly all our experience has sown. that women are more dis- sed to sniffer than right themselves by altering orms no longer available. But when we see con- tinaally still greater efforts made to keep us in subjection, it is our duty to abolish it at once; such is the necessity which compels us to pro- vide for our security; to prove this let facts speak for themselves They have, in the most tyrannical manner, seized upon our shawls, thout even asking permission, though they have always opposed the Bloomer They have refused to sanction or even encens- age onr efforts to obtain a livelihood by the pro- fessions of Law, or Medicine, and even by a poor attempt at wit, have affected to interpret the M.D. of a female physician into Mese rable Doings They Lave eudeavored to abolish Loops, also those becoming and useful bonnets, with invisi- ble fronts, well known to be preventives against neuralgia, colds, &c., by invidious attacks inthe papers and private circles; these attacks, how- ever, should rather be as ‘atulation than complaint, as it showing that we not only meet them with hero- ism, but defy them; it likewise refutes the slan- der so long in cirenlation that we dress ouly to please the otuer sex. The speaker related many thrill Z inei- deats of the revivals now yoing on in othercities, and concluded by javoking the Spirit of God to work upon the hearts of our people in a like manner.
