Si — +e 0e-- A LocomoTivs RUNS THROUGH A STONR WALL Yesterday, says the Rochester Democrat of Jan G, the train on the Genesee Valley Road, arrived on time. Just after passing Clarissa street bridge, there are railroad buildings —some low sheds and a stone engine house, wilb a turn table on the south side. The switch of the turn table is at the corner, about 2 feet from the engine-house The switch was left open, so that when the noon train arrived, it ran off upon the round tal and into the engine-house. Fortunately, the turn table was in a right position, and the engine and train moved straight forward, passing through two large wooden doors, and through the engine Louse, until it reached the rear wall, some two feet thick. but guite oid. The locomotive passed through this ol le, searcely causing a jar to the train, and plunged ontside, its whole length, doubling up some old iron rails lying on the north side, aa if they were wyths, and striking her nose downward into the soft earth. Her lamp, smoke-stack, dome, and outworks were evmpletely ruined, and right down upon the cab, where the engineer and firemen stand, the upper section of the stone wall fell, filling up the space between boiler and tender to tue depth of several feet. The engineer sprang off before the engine had reached the building, previously reversing, Pygting on steam, and whistling twice for the cakes. The fireman alsv leaped from the en- ‘ine, and suttyred uo injury. ‘Twocoaches near- £ full of passengers were in the train. Nota person moved from his place, and most of the ngets were probably unaware that any acci- it had ocourred. The engine is the Wayland, a large and powerful machine. It is injured probably to the ammount of $2,000. es EE ha 1™ The Baltimore American has just entered upon its one hundred and seventeenth volume. i> Ned Kendall, the famous bugler, is giv- ing concerts in New York. {D> At the recent marriage of Mr. Guthrie, in Quincy, lll., the parties had never seen each other until the day of their marriage.
