cVENING STAR. PLAYGROUND LITERATURE. We know of no better way to bring a smile to young America’s face than by giving place to some of the queer literature of the play-ground. It has always amused us, and as we have grown into manhood, many a time in hearing the quaint rhymes and abserd concentration of ideas, have we tried to fathom the origin and meaning of them. Ofcourse our wits were unable to solve the riddle. One “count out’? we remember is this: “Ong ery. two ery, ickery an, B. }. vinegar, tittle and tan, Harum, scarum, Macerum, marum, Get out you little old man.” Another runs as follows: Hinks, spinks, ‘he winks, The fats begining to fry; Nobody’ x at home, atju Father, oth Jorn, _O-U-F out, i With a long biaok snout, Out, pout, one. Hickory, heary hury Ann, Busy body over span; Rare, pare. Virgia Mary, Pit, pout, one, one. Such giberish as the following we never hear Without a hearty langh, and wender who in- vented it: One-ery, two-ery,dickery deven, A je. crackabone, ten or eleven; r must £0 on, ie ‘om, twaddle "em, twenty-one, law kers. baulk "em, bonny Crawkam, Hiddlecum, biddlecum, bastard, O U-Tout, There, boys, you are in print, and we hope you will consider us friends fora very long time to eome.
