‘Tus River.—The channel above the Long Bridge is clear of lumber vessels this morning for the first time since last spring. The lumber season begins to close up. Mr. Wm. Leach, k of the Southern draw, shot this morning the first ducks of the season— one Widgeon two Blue Wings. They were very fine ‘imens, indeed. Last night was intensely dark on the river, xo much so that the mail steamer Powhatan found reat difficulty in keeping the chaunel, and ob- fo could not be distinguished at any distance from the steamer’s bows. This morning, on the arrival of the Powhatan (4a.m_) at her wharf, several accidents occurred to carriages in conse- quence of their being no lamps to warn the dri- vers from the dangerous obstructions about the wharf, and several drivers of hack: carriages determined not to attend the place for {he purpose of conveying passengers without extra charge for such service.
