S$. Evans is very much dissatisfied with the course pursued by the Monument Board in rela- tion to their Secretary, and that he was not aware of the nature of the movement to be considered by the Board the other day, when he signed the call for the special meeting. To-day he sent his resignation to the Beard in the following woids: Gentlemen : | hezewith resign my position as a member of the Board of Manazers of the Warh- ington Monument Society. Repectfally, &c., F.S. Evans it is whispered that Mr. Robert T. Knight, one of the Board, is endeavoring to have Mr. AtLee (the present Sceretary) discharged. avoredly to obtain that gentleman’s place for himself. We hear further that the Managers feel rather unamiably towards the press-gang, and have christened them ‘- the shawl gang,” perhaps from the fact that most of the tribe who made their un- welcome descent on the meeting of the Board were clad in that warm but rather unsightly ar- ticle of raiment.
