IX. Star. WASHINGTON, D. C., FRIDAY, APRIL 24, 1857. ROMANCE OF WASHINGTON SOCIETY. An Irish Unprotected Female. Letters from Senator Fitzpatrick and Mrs. Senator Clay of Alabama. The strange ease of love into which a gentle- man of this vicinity (says the Vernon. Jackson Parish, Louisiana, Herald, of April 3d) became entrap ington City is already pretty well known throughout North Louisiana, and perhaps we may say the United States. The gentleman still resides near this place, and within the last week we have seen and conversed with him, and also with the young lady with whom he has become entangled. We first, in ® private interview with her, obtained her consent to write and publish all that we are going to write and publish, and afterwards we bezame icquedated asely knowing our purpose, rendered no objection with the written statements of her friends, and such actual facts as have fallen under our own | observation since we first saw her. She is as intelligent and accomplished in her munners as you will find one woman in a thous- and, take the United States over. and is well educatel. Without being decidedly pretty, she from being a homely woman. In form she is large, and a perfect model in figure. No chisel ever wrought a more perfect bust than she displays. Her hair is black, inclined to earl; her eye-brows and lashes of the samo color; | and the eyes a dark yellow. inclined to hazel You may. by studious effort. bring her to a smile occasionally. but it is a smile of hidden sorrow. Her teeth are like two rows of pearls, “bid among the lilies.’ Whenever we have seek her, she has been dressed black si well trimmed and made up in the very best | style. She wears on her besom a handsome brooeh, which she says is a present from her over, anl her fingers are full of rings, one of h she says is also the gift of him for whem she is now willing todie. She is native of Lim- ertek. «city of Ireland, where her parents now live. and where she has several brothers. She may be called a servant girl, bat such an ap- a) on cloes her injustice: for when you speak ot ~ an [rish servant girl,’ you have no refer- ence to such a woman as the one of whom we are now speaking.
