Miss Fanny Morant is about purchasing a rt or the whole of the lease of the National Theatre from Kunkel & Co. Should this be consummated, Washington will be able to rival New York in a lady manageross, gifted with beauty, wit, great histrionic talent, and conversational powers. Miss Morant is an ac- complished vooalist and actress in Engligh and French. Dances elegantly, plays artistically on the guitar. Gifted thus by the muses, she cannot =~ create a fener and command guc- cess in a city so proverbial for its gallantry as Washington. = = = We WOULD CALL THe ATTENTION of the readers of the Star to our friend aera seen ’s large and elegant assortment of Gift ks, Juveniles. Games, Jadies’ Work Boxes and Writing Desks, very handsome bound Bibles and Prayer Books, Card Cases, Gold Pens, Pen Knives, Purses, Backgammon Boards, Fortfolios, and a thousand other different fancy articles, suitable for presents for the holidays. By calling early a better eelection can be made, and the crowd of the holidays avoided. * A Suasn.—Yesterday afternoon, a horse at- tached to a carryall belonging to Capt J. Peck, ran off on Seventh street, during the temporary absence of the driver, end ran through several streets and avenues, causin; considerable confusion among pedestrians ani @ general stampede of coachmen with their teams. The horse was stopped near the corner of Sixth street and the Avenue after making a smash of the vehicle and harness. Many of our readers no doubt find it quite difficult to select their Christmas gifts from among the many articles which fill our Penn- eylvania avenue stores. We advise all who are #0 puzzled, to get from our friend Shilling- ton one of his superb writing-desks, work- boxes, cabas, portfolios, or beautiful annuals, for sale very low at his great emporium. Susriciovs Pgrson.—Certain expressions used by Kelly, the man who was sent to jail yesterday for horse-stealing, caused the police to suspect that this is not the only offence of the kind he has been guilty of within a few months, and that he is nowa fugitive from justice in Maryland. The officers have writ- ten to Maryland for further information re- specting him. Criminat Court.—The following cases were disposed of yesterday in this Court: John Donaldson, assault and battery—guilty ; fined $10. Wm. Sullivan, John Ennis and Richard Jones, riot; each nine months in the county jail aud $1 fine Timothy D. Sullivan, as- sault and battery; $50 fine. Nationa, Taeatre.—The Florences are such deservedly great favorites with the Washington public, that the bare announce- ment of their names is a card quite sufficient to fill the theatre; more ially with such @ bill as that offered to ap re Ws. Suturvas.—We learned at the court- house, this morning, that Sullivan, who was sentenced to nine months’ imprisonment in jail, became so unruly upon his arrival at the jail that the guards found it necessary to con- fine him closely. Taz Deavers in Centre Marker will probably be found in their places to morrow afternoon and evening to supply customers for Christmas.
