EVENING STAR. _ LOCAL INTELLIGENCE. Taz Kyow Nornixa Ratty—Tar Great Pp sion To Rockvitus.—Eureka! vivat! Ju. Tonans! Hale Kerlumby! Erin go Bragh! sing Jubilates! sound the tocsin! strike the cymbals! beat the dram! We are proud ee are—after the gorgeous political pageant of Saturday got up by our own citizens, regardless of expense and wi out consideration of outlay. We are surprised and indignant that the press of our own and neighboring cities slur over this demonstra- tion so slightingly, and it shan’t be said that the Star has failed to do justice to political opponents in atter which does so much credit to us as a city. The morning, then, of Saturday, dawned brightly, auspiciously. At sunrise a salute was fired from a park of Lancaster guns from the top of the Washington Monument, (which ‘has lately been completed by the Know N.th- ings,) and from the plaza in front of Island Hall. This was the signal for the gathering of the myriads of people of all ranks, ages, sexes, conditions, and style, who designed Pp ating in the extraordinary demonstra- tion of the day The scene, which now began to pile up with grandeur, reached its culmi- nating point, when the pageant commenced moving, at balf-past seven a. m., amid the roar of cannoa, the ringing of bells, the cla- mor of voices, the nodding of plumes, the roll of drums, the waving of handkerchiefs, the flourish of trumpets, the fluttering of flags and banners, the blowing of noses, the tramp cf horses, the crash of bands, the chanting of atriotic hymus by the moving clans, and the Sse of the immense multitade which oecu- pied the sidewalks. The procession, when tormed, extended from Benning’s bridge to Tennallytowa, and was five hours and sixty- five minutes im passing a given paint. The following programme of the order of procession gives but a faint idea to the reader of the grand result : Escort by pty mpoodie Ar tiller: Music by the Jackson City Cornet Heals of Marshal Beraam 8 glaes case, * Line ef drays bearing the p rusia of disbandet K. Fancy this imposing assemblage drawn up in serriod ranks before the Rockville Exchangs —fancy all this, dear reader —and our duty is done. To the special Know-Nothiog Organ we leave the grateful task of chronicling the doings of the meeting - 8.—Some misanthropic individual has started a report that this procession consisted of a couple of second-hand omnibuses half-Slled with boys, and a razeod sulky containing the Seventh Ward delegation; and that the array of marshals were summed up unhappy lovking personage outside of a vicious cart horse, and with a blue scarf attached to his coat tail. The “ pageant’ according to this ridiculous report seemed considerably ashamed of itself, and made its exit from the city by the way of back streets and alleys as if to escape observa tion. This is the report. We caution our readers not to believe a sing'e word of it Tae Fuserac or Lyspe Ector, Es , took place yesterday afternoon, an@ was attended by the Masonic Fraternity and the Indepen- dent Order of Uid Fellows, of which associa tions he was a prominent and worthily esteemed member. Capt Schwarzman acted as the marshal of the former. and John W. Hodgson and Jobn P. Headley as marshals of the lat- ter organization. The procession was large and imposing—the “brethren of the mystic tie,’ and those of the other s (united likewise for similar “Good Samaritan” purposes,) appearing in their appropriate regslia, with the insignia of mourning upon their persons and their distinc tive banners; while the funsreal music of Espata and Weber's bands added materially to the sulemnity of the occasion. J (iawler was the undertaker. Many were the witnesses of the procession as it passed through the publi: streets to Oak Hill Canetene where the remains of the be- loved brother were deposited with the rites peculiar to Masonry and Odd Fellowship— rites sulemn and impressive, calculated to awaken deep reflection on the uncertainty of human life, and to remind the living of the awful truth, that our hearts “ Iike muffie’ drums are beatiag Faneral marches to the yrave.”” Cousrerrezirs on the Central Bank of ginia are in circulation in that State. spurious article may find its way to trict, it would do oo harm for our citizens to be onthe look out for such nvtes The Rich- mond Enquirer says they purport to be on the Central Bank of Virginia payable at Staunton, signed Willi Kinney, president; W H Tams, cashier. The counterfeit may at once be detected by the vignette, which is the Gou- dess of Liberty, while the vignette of the gen- uine note is a manon a horse. The couuter- feit aleo differs from the genuine by having the words ‘The Central Bank of Virgivia”’ in large letters in one line, while the genuine note has the word “the’’ in small letters in a line to iteelf over the jarze letters, “Central Bank of Virginia’ The counterfeit is also without the signature of ‘J B. Stovall,” which appears on the face of the genuine Taz Guarp Housz Divricutry —By the following order from the Mayor to Capt. Mills, of the Auxiliary Guard, ic will be seen that, for the present, Justice Morsell will attend to the business of the Central Guard douse: Mayor 8 Orvice, Wasuixaton, Oct 4, 1556 Sim: You are hereby notified that the ninth rule of the regulations for the government of the police department is annulled, so far as it relates to the attendance of police magistrates of the Second, Third. and Fourth districts at the Central Guard-House, and that B. K Morsel!, Esq, will attend at that station until otherwiso ordered; and further, that you, in ro event, must call upon J. S. Hollingshoad, ot allow him in any way to interfere with the business of the sight watch. y. B. Magruper, Ma: To Capt. Jxo Mitus, Capt. Auxiliary — A Deacest was u..us on Saturday night by the watchmen in the Second Ward on a house where a number of colored persons were congregated kins and gambling The watchmen got into the room, when the lights were extinguished and a free fight ensued Pistols were fred, and blows dealt promiscu- ously with chairs, fire-pokera, short sticks, &e. The watchmen, (only four being present,) succeeded in capturing the tw» leaders of the party, and the female keeper of the den; the others escaped by cuttiog through the side of the heus> to an adjoining building whence they jumped to the street. Watchman Nor- wood received several blows in the affray. which will preven’ bis attendance to duty for @ short time. d. Nationa, Tara’ eller’s great troupe make their first appearance in our city to- night. The bill presenting a spectacular drama prepared expressly for them, and founded upon the scriptural parable of the Pre Son. entitled “ Azael, or the Prodi- ’’ incidental to which, Mons. and Mdme. eller and their easy composing some twen- ty-seven artists, will appear in a number of living illustrations, dramatic visions, and act- ing tableaux. entitied pacsipelly. “The Show- er of Gold,”’ ‘‘Pamine,’’ ‘The Queen of Flow- ers,” “The Battle of the Amazons,” “ The Prodigal’s Return,” and ‘Faith, Hope and Charity,”’ concluding with two tableaux rep- resenting the signing of the Declaration of I mdence, and the Presidential candi- dates, in which capital likenesses of Messrs. Buchanan, Fillmore, and Fremont will be offered. These performances are by the united voice of the press and people of every city in which they have appeared, pronounced to be beautiful and effective. The characters in the drama wil! be sustained by the members of the Holliday street (Baltimore) theatre. A full corps de ballet, and a largely augmented orchestra, accompany the troupe. Tus American Hoox anv Lapper Company have their second gfand ball to-morrow night at Odd Fellowy’ Hall, near the Navy Yard, for which tho committee having the matter in charge have made every arrangement con- ducive to the cowfort and pleasure of their guests. The hall has been most tastofu'ly fes- tooned with the flags of all the different na- tions, the floor decorated with well-exccut2d drawings, &c., makihg it altogether a sight well worth a visit, to sav nothing of the pleas ure of “tripping it on the light fantastic toe’”’ with the fetr and bright-eyed lassies of the eastern section of the city. Maticious Miscuier.—On Saturday afier- noon a lady while passing along Sixth street to her home, had a costly silk dress ruined by some jon throwing lamp oil uponit. The lady did not sea the perpetrator of the act and is at @ loss who to suspect as being the guilty person. A few wecks since we recorded the fact of a young man being arrested for throwing vitriol upon ladies’ dresses There seems to be agrow- ing mania for this epecies of malicious mis- cbief. Wraan will perform at Odd Fe!lows’ Hall to-night and to-morrow night His various | tricks of magic and ventriloquism have been appreciated by largo auditories; a welcome which he never fails to find from the lovers of innocent amusements. It would be interest. ing for the spectators to know how he manazes tu produce such successful illusions; but this he leaves for their eyes to detoct. So, young friends especially, sharpen your optic, ana kcop a keen lock-out. A Case ror tie Pouice.—A lady com- plains to us of the crowd of rowdy boys and men, colored and white, who infest the neigh- berhood of the 44 street bridge, and make the task of crossing it an exceedingly unpleazant, if not dangerous one. As the complainant is not only a lady, but an extremely pretty one, we doubt not that the gallantry of the police of that section will prompt them to remedy the evil without delay. ImToxicaTion.—Saturday night, our City Night Watch were busily engaged in quieting persons who having indulged tov freely in po- litical whisky were inclined to be disorderly; they succeeded ir most instances in persuading the parties to go to their homes, which saved them from figuring in the wateh returns It is said that the whisky was not Washington whisky and that most of the drunken m:n were only temporary residents here, Miscuigvots.—Several citizens have cow- plained that boys congregate near their bouces early ia the night and use profane and inde- cent language to the annoyance of the vicinity, and sometimes scrawl obs:ene words upon tho wa'ls and doors of the houses.. The puni-h- ment for this offenee is severe ; anl if an ex ample be made of some of the boye or young men, they will not coon forget ft. Stores Oren.—The auxiliary guard report that they found several stores open at late hours during the past week, and no persons on tho premices in charge. They were se cured and the owners notified. Probably they wore left open by accident. They may have been opened by burglars, but we have heard of no robberies as yet Larcexy.—Catharine Prior was arrested this morning by Offiver King, charged with the larceny of a silk dress the property cf Honora Bregenaham She was taken before Justice T.
