Moran, Hugh Atwell, Wiltiam Ei , James McDevitt and Henry. Millor—members of the Franklin Com- peny—to appear at Court to answer to the charge of fighting, assault and rioting. While several others (: tor nine, mostly members of other companies) were required to give se- curity to keep the peace. The other sul juent riot or riots will also, we learn, be judicially investigated. - ; Pi Sane nS» gre and com- ttable preparations completed, and the elegance of the il arrangements of this establishment—Iron Hall buil casioned a pleasurable excitement throughout the metropolis. In fact the mention of the firm<f Kunkel and Company, se our friend John T. Ford, of course, i# suggestive of enterprise and a tact to meet the public de- mand for innocent and instructive amusement. On Monday evening, they will inaugurate the Varieties, presenting a variety of choice attractions. In addition to the diverting farces of Speaks First?” and “The Artful T,’’ will be performed the new and bril- liant Comedy of ‘Still Waters run deep.”” A friend who saw this play represented in New York city, speaks of it as not only elegant in its corceptions, but as teaching a moral lesson, drawn from fashionable life; and such is tho opinion of the critics whose pens have been | employed in its praise, je “Star Theatre, Baltimore, will appear in the above Pieces. Some Tuixcs to se Seex.—We advise all who are building, and those who think of ersct- ing monuments to the memory of deceased | relatives or friends, to visit the new marble- work establishment of Mr. Alexander Ruth- erford, on B street, between Thirteenth and Thirteenth-and-a-half streets, next to Maher's Globe Hotel. There are t> be seen there, specimens of sculpture in marble on monu- ments to mark the last resting places of hu- manity’s decaying part, op tomb stones, man- tels, &c , which would do credit to any Euro- peam capital. The taste displayed ia the werk to which we here allude is equal te ihe skill with which that taste is carried out. All is the handicraft of resident artists and me- chanics, and explains the effect of the Govern- ment’s heavy expenditures in crnameatal mar- ble work, in the way of fosteringin Washington @ pure and elegant taste in such matters among the community at large, for better than we could do, were we to expatiate on the theme through whole columns of the Star. We need hardly add that Mr. Rutherford’s list of prices are exceedipg!y moderate, as having prepared to do avery large business in his line, it is only possible for him to succeed by drawing an extent of custom to his marble cutting shop, which will eggregate to no establishment wherein the rate of charges are not very rea- sonable. Norrusey Lisseties Excixe Hovse.—We hear fre yuent complaints from members of the Northern Liberties Fire Company at the long delay which has occurred in the completion of their engine house. They confidently ex- pected, under the assurance of its builder, that long ere this they would have assemb!ed within its walls; but from present indications some time must elapse before it will be ready for their occu; - In the old edifice their apparatus is suffering material injury from the dilapidated condition of the building, which, onee destroyed by fire, was but tempo- rarily repaired until a new structure could be erected. One of the consequences of this de- lay may, it is said, be an appeal to the corpe- ration for a sum requisite to repair the dam- age the apparatus must have suffered from the exposure to which it has been so long sub- jected. We earnestly hope that those having the new edifice in charge will soon enable this indefatigable company to take possession of it, and to put in execution come of the admirable plans whieh they are contemplating—the for- mation of a library, &c. Haxpsome Srors —Wall & Stephens, clo- thiers, have fitted up a new establishment, a few doors west of the National Hotel, which, for beauty of arrangement, cannot be sur- passed in this latitude. The artisans whose skill has produced this result are: Shuter and Kahlert, fresco painters; T. B Entwistle and T. Birch, carpenters; the gilding and deco- rations by Mr. Lamb; the gas fixtures by Thompson & Brother. The store will be lighted in a manner entirely different from any now in use; the illumination being re- flected from a large bronze figure supporting the chandelier. The entire work is in the — degree creditable to those mechanics of Washington. Hore Opzxixe —Dexter’s Hotel, formerly the Avenue House, will be opened on Monday next. This establishment coptains about sev- enty chambers, many of them with adjoining ailors. No pains have been s; to render t not only comfortable, but elegant in all the arrangements and appointments. The la7ics’ drawing-room is indeed splendid. Mr. Dexter is a gentleman of enlarged ex- perience in hotel keogin , and will be favor- ably remembered as the former “ mine host’’ of the National. The traveling public may be assured that they will be h mely en- tertained at all times by the enterprising and liberal proprietor. Narioxat Tazatre.—As has heretofore been announced, James W. Wallack, Jr., will, on Monday evening, appear at that establish. ment in the character of Macbeth; Mr. Howe as Macduff, and Mrs. Melinda Jones as Lady Macbeth. The high reputation of Mr. Wei- lack as a tragedian, will, doubtless, apart from the great merits of the literary produc- tion of “the Bard of Avon,” attract a dense 2 awe The entire Museum Company will appear in the tragedy. Merroporitas Rattroap —The Rockville Sentinel states that the directors of this com- pany; have accepted the of >» offi- cient of contractors to commen. > the of this important work within Montgomery county forthwith, and that there »cannet be a doubt of its being made to Fred erick, provided those most interested in the work will lend it such maerial as they have it in their power to afford. Cove? or Craiws.—Yesterday, the argu- ment in the case of Benjamin H. Springer was reeumed by Hon. Frederick P. Stanton, who was followed ger Solicitor. The argu- ment was closed by Mr. Stanton, and the case was submitted fur the decision of the court as to whether testimony be taken or not. The court them adjourned. Wasurseroy Arnex eou.—At a late meet- ing of the Association an election of officers for the ensuing quarter took , with the joilowing result: President, A. Lloyd; Vice FrTiem, @. M. At an early hour most of the stores and work- shops were closed, and their occupants betook themselves to such exercises as best pleased their fancy. Church on Thursday night, was a pleasing affair indeed, The spacious edifice was liter- ally crowded, and all seemed well pleased | with the manner in which the pupils acquitted themselves.
