Sec. 3, act of February 22, 1849. + +e ——____ Drive rrom Emotion.—The father of Tuck- cripan, the Boston defaulter, was well known asa genial man, with a emileand a pleasant word for every one. Since the news respect- ing his son’s swindling transaction was made known, all joyful expression left his face, and his stolid features, his eyes fixed on vacancy, and his ghastly, — color, all showed that deep grief had taken poseossion ofhim. Some ten days sinee, without any marked cause, he died from shame—the victim of his son. There may have been no ruptare of the cardiac or- gan, but the world recognizes it as a broken heart. If the son isunmoved by the thoughts of the orphans and widows he has wronged, will he not be touched by the parricidal re- sults of his wilful wrong-doing. The death of Mr. Dellicker, a well known juerchant of Broaklyn, oconrred on Monday, under very peculiar cireumstances. He was in perfectly good health, and bad just returned fromthe country where he hed left his wife, ‘who was recovering from 2 recent illness. He had bat reached home when a tele; bic message was brought to him snnouncing his wife’s death, He-sank into achairon Treading the ssd news, said hé felt very ill, and re- quested that a physician should be sent for, and died immediately. The influence of the bedy over the mind is mysterious and its ef- fects are startling. The above instances are not unusual, but none the less note worthy.— N.Y.
