At the church forty-five persons have a taken into membership, the fruits of the revival which has been progressing for some tims. - . A Beavrtirut Toy is now on exhibition at the fancy store of Mr. Andrew Tate, Pennsyl- vania Avenue, between Tenth and Eleventh streets. It is a musicalibox; the front repre- sents a miniature piano forte, before which stands an instructres3 and her juvenile pupil. The hand of the former (the machinery which produces the melody being in motion) beats the time, while the finger. of the latter operate quickly on the keys: and all in a lift-‘ike mar- ner. No one can fail to admire the beautiful arranzement, while desirmg to possess the work of art. It is, we learn, to be rafiled for, at a dollar each fur the twenty chances. GEORGETOWN CORRESPONDENCE. Groneztown, Sept. 25, 1855, We think it likely that there will be a very general suspension of all kinds of business in our city to-morrow. The proclamation of the Mayor, which is in and of itself quite a ser- mon for such an occasion, seems to meet with the approbation of all classes. There will be services in each one of our churches at the = hour. e would advise those men who are the habit of gathering about the West A town chureh, for the purpose of annoying the con ion while e in religious wor- ship, to desist at once from their very disrep- utable conduct. On Saturday, in the first named place, there were 52 deaths, and in the last named 26. A letter from Norfolk says: 1 am sorry to inform you that the fever sti! rages in some sections of our city. There are very many cases on Smith’s Point, and in the northern portion of the town. It is now lurk- ing out in the suburbs, and entering almost every house on the upper part of Church street, and on Cumberland, Queen, James and other streets. The disease is exceedingly fatal and rapid, more so than formerly. Many who have been taken since the commencement of he week, are dead and buried. But the scourge must, I think, ere long, terminate its terrible and unsparing march, for there will soon be but few remaining citizens to attack Hundreds, I may almost say thousands, have died, and many have recovered. The fiercest rage of the fell conqueror is over, and its vic- tims sleep in the grave, while many have sur- vived the scathing effects of the monster, ex- i: the unmistakable marks of the con- Act. There are many deaths and a large number of cases not reported. Numerous children and servants are suffering with the fever—the lat- ter, many of them, have it but slightly, and rezover in about ten days, while others die. A letter from Portsmouth mentions the death of Miss Mary Totterdell, Merritt Parsons, Jere- mish Whitmore, Wm. Lingo, Mrs. Butner, and Mrs. John Outten.
