er Srey SSS 6 Seven Years of the Communist Party. “J"HE Communist Party came into ex- i istence in the United States In re- sponse to knowledge of how a pro- fetarian revolution achieves victory gain- ed from the great achievement of Russian workers and peasants in No- vember, 1917. The workers of this country who were ledged to the class struggle against cap- talism had before them the history © the actual struggle of the workers for power in Russia. They had in addition the lessons of the short-lived victory of the workers of Hungary, of Muenich and the struggles of the German workers generally. These experiences proved the futility of reformist socialism. They showed that workers seize the state power and estab- lish their proletarian dictatorship. They showed that in the struggle for state Power the form of the workers’ govern. ment arises naturally upon the basis of the workers’ organizations and the So- viets—workers’ councils become the basis of the proletarian state power. moe formed a party which accepted as its fundamental principles the lesson of these experiences—the Communst Party. Today the Workers (Commu- nist) Party stands out clearly as the real vanguard organization of the working class. Johnstone, The Vanguard of the American Workers, ROM a rebellious left wing of the so- cialist party to a revolutionary po- _ ~ litical party of the American work- ingctass—this was the road travelied by the organized Communists of the United States since the summer of 1919. Seven years ago we raised the banner of the social revolution and of the Com- munist International; and for this we were persecuted, hounded and driven un- derground. We proceeded ahead never- theless and have established a Commu- nist party the United States. Seven years ago we were a group of enthusiasts ready to storm heaven and hell for the liberation of the working class but without sufficient experience and organic contact with the struggling masses. Today we are Just as enthusi- astic and ready to fight but incomparably richer in political experience and an or- ganic, inseparable part of the labor move- ment. Thru sharp ideological struggles inside Our movement; in the process of merci- less struggle with the reformists and agents of capital in the labor movement; thru our energetic fights for the protec- tion of the immediate interests of the masses, for the development of a left wing in the trade unions, for a labor Party and for militant struggies against Capitalism generally, we are establishing our og ey the vanguard of the work- ers of United States. eH : —Alex Bittelman. a Young Communists Greet Party Anniversary ae HE organized revolutionary youth is proud of its leader, the Work- ers (Communist) Party. Of all the political organizations claiming com- position of workers in this country the Communists alone, have been suf- ficiently interested in the struggle of the young workers to pay special at- tention to their organization and in- terests. When during the world war the So- cial patriots of Europe and America who had won ithe leadership of the - workers turned their backs on the anti-war agitation among the masses, the young workers of five countries —even before the adult workers—con- vened in Berne, Switzerland, and be- gan an organized struggle against capitalism. The Russian revolution and war support brought the split within the American Socialist Party and separated the left wing elements from those who were following the Supporters of the war, Hillquit, Ber- ger, and company. At that time the American youth by an overwhelming majority were not found wanting in revolutionary spirit. Today we are working hard; work- ing hard to win the working youth to . Communism, In the tight of your leadership we will succeed. Greetings to you on your Seventh Anniversary! Long may you live! SAM DARCY, 6ec’y. Young Workers (Communist)
