When members of the former Civic Interest Ticket took office in ¥ UE 5980, a debt of $142,000 was assumed, this'amount being an over-expendi- ture of the previous council budget. During the past year that debt was reduced by $94,000. At the present time there is still a deficit of $50,000 which must be included and taken care of in this year’s budget. This item can not be met by the City sales tax but must come from property taxes. For this reason we do not propose lowering the millage rate but do promise there will be no raising of the tax payer’s property values, or taxes. The sales tax collected by the City will be used only for the pur- poses for which the citizens of Juneau voted. Our policy and aim will be to see to completion all city projects now under way, reduce all present obligations and under no circumstances assume any further expenditures until debts are satisfied, excepting those of imperative need or public necessity.
