The Rainiers, leading the league with a two game bulge on Holly- wood, are still minus the serv of Walt Judnich, the PCL's leading hitter. Judnich, who evidently attaches more importance to the welfare of his ailing wife than he does to a pennant in Seattle, walked out of Sick’s Stadium in a huff last night after being fined $100 for going AWOL. The Rainiers managed to win .wishout him, however, beating Los Angeles, 4-2. The Hollywoods also won without German, who broke his leg in Tuesday's series opener with San Diego. The Stars dusted off the Padres this time, 5-1, to square the series at a game apiece. But whereas the Stars have capable replacement for Gorman in the person of Dino Restelli, Seattle has nobody to plug the hole left, temporarily perhaps, by Judnich. His loss cuts the Rainier garden corps to three, including Al Lyons, who pitches part time. Oakland Moves Up Oakland, with Earl Rapp driving in four runs, moved into third place with a 6-1 conquest of Portland Sacramento tumbled to fourth by way of an awesome 15-2 thrashin administered by the lowly San Fran- cisco Seals. It was the Seals’ third straight win. Bill McCawley contributed two home runs to the assault, Ray Or- teig got one with the bases loaded, and Dario Lodigiani homered in two more of the runs. Making his reappearance cn the|” coast was Walt Dropo, the Ameri-| can league’s rookie sensation of 1950. Dropo fell into a batting slump with the Boston Red Sox this cea- son. Optioned to San Diego in time for last night’s game, he was still slumping; no hits in four trips. San Diego’s lone run materialized, though, when Dropo hit into a dou- ble play. Baltzo said that the Icy Strait area is normally closed to crab' fishing from June 15 to July 31, but it is being kept open this year to make studies and observe condition of the crabs in order to have a basis for proper regulations for the future. The study will continue through the summer, he said. SHUTOUT IS HURLED BY A.REYNOLDS By Associated Press The hottest hurler in the majors today is Allie (Wahoo) Reynolds, the part Indian righthander from Bethany, Okla, who toils for the New York Yankees. Last night he racked up his third straight shut- out as the Yanks whipped the Wash- ington Senators, 2-0, on five hits. The victory plus Detroit’s 3-2 win over Chicago enabled the Yankees to climb to within one game of the American League leading White Sox. The third place Boston Red Sox also closed in on the leaders with a 6-5 victory over Philadelphia’s Athletics and are now three games off the pace. » | Coan to { arrived to short right and Gil und out.
