These reasons are that the blood | is needed, many letters have been received by the San Francisco Red vack ildren; Crouston, from Ketchikan: wanting to give blood, and people in the states have been somewhat lethargic about giving blood. The Alaska operation by the King Coun- ty Central Blood Bank, Seattle, is to create an interest in giving blood | for the Armed Forces, The team of six people from the King County blood bank will ar- rive on the Aleutian the morning of June 9. Facilities of the Elks hall have been donated for the op-| eration. Hours for donating plood | will be from 9 a.m. to 12 noon, 1 p.m. to 5 pm. and from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Appointments for donating blood | may be made by calling the Red| Cross office mornings at 883 or Mrs M. O. Johnson at Green 491. Forty pints of blood will be taken each hour of the operation. The| blood bank unit will take 150 pints of blood in three hours at Ketchi- kan. The blood will be flown to Seattle where it will be processed and turned over to the Armed Forces. Processing involves typing of the blood and making laboratory tests on it. Doner requirements are that any persen giving blood must be in nor- mal health and be between the ages of 21 and 60, inclusive. Anyone be- tween the ages of 18 and 21 wish-| ing to donate blood must have g signed slip from their parents. When each individual appears at the Elks hall to give his blood, that person’s name Will be checked off| the schedule sheet and then will | be given a medical examination for blood pressurg, anemid and a medi- cal history will be taken % each\ person. Following the medical exam- | ination, blood will be taken in n five-minute painless operation. Each | person will rest for 10 minutes after the blood donation and then given | refreshments. = The warning has been given that | no one is to eat any fats for four hours preceding the donation of | blood., | This program of giving blood has the approval of the local medical society. St. Ann’s hospital is fur- nishing the beds and linens to be used at the Elks hall, The Alaska Steamship Co. is transporting the blood bank team free of charge. From here, the team goes to the| westward. Mrs.. M. O. Johnson is blood program chairman. e o - O BOWL BEING CLEANED Elton Engstrom, Jr. and Arnold Soley, Jr. started this morning to clean up Evergreen Bowl and the swimming pool.
