WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER DOC" JACKSON BACK FROM VFW COUNCIL'MEETING Only member from Juneau on the Alaska Council of Administra- tion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Department Surgeon Willlam C. Jackson returned during the last week from a meeting of the Alaska Council held in Anchorage Dec- ember 3. In the absence of Depariment Commander Jack Davis, Depart- ment Senior Vice Commander Geo. Sullivan presided at the Anchorage meeting. Most important business to come before the meeting was discussion regarding procurement of a Service Officer for the Department of Al- aska and the application of J. C. Dodd, of the Juneau post, was for- warded to the National Representa- tive in Alaska for further action. Four resolutions introduced be- fore Council were: 1-—That the VFW urge legislation in support of proposed armories in the Territory. 2—That the to all Territorial employees called to active duty training through the National Guard or Military Reserv- es; the military leave not to be Territory grant a| maximum of 21 days military leave | 13, 1950 construed as annual leave; 3.—That the Federal Government be asked to take over the obligations to fin- ance institutions owed by men in the National Guard or Military Reserves called into active duty and | 4—That the Federal Government reinstate commissary privileges to| ‘nll Civil Service employees work- | ing on or directly for military bas- | es in Alaska. | All resolutions were passed unan- | imously except endorsement of the | | proposed armory legislation, which | was introducted by Jackson and ' | failed for want of a second. This was the first Territorial| | meeting since the new Department | ;offlcers were elected. Next meeting will be held at Ketchikan next | June, Department Surgeon Jackson, “Doctor” to his friends in the| | VFW’s Jeep Club where he is'| | steward, had a fine trip to Anch- | orage, and, judging by the minutes of the meeting, was one of the bus- iest men at the council.
