WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER MIKES NITE OWLS BEAT COLUMBIANS; GAME ON TONIGHT Mikes Nite Owls pressed the Co- lumbia Lumber outfit last night in the Douglas High School gym, and came out with a win of 64 to 53. It was an exciting game and in- terest kept up throughout. There was a preliminary game between the Coast Guard and the Arctics and the latter won 35 to 22. | In the main game of the evening, Mikes vs Columbia, the Lumbermen held the lead through three quar- ters. Then the Nite Owls started a | drive that overtook the Columbfans. | Denny Merritt led Mikes with a | neat 29 counters. In the last quar- ter Mikes dominated the game and held a comfortable margin from that point to the end. | Itch Hanson, alumni of last year’s | J-Hi squad was high scorer for Columbia Lumber. SKI CLUB WILL HAVE MOVIES: AT MEETING ON FRIDAY NIGHT The Juneau Ski Club will hold its next meeting Friday evening at the Baranof Gold room beginning at 8 o'clock with all members and those interested in the sport invited to attend. Main attraction of the evening will feature excellent ski movies taken from the 1948 Na- tional ski championship held at Sun Valley Idaho. Other reels will show outstanding jumping compet- ition from a number of national contests which include the famous record leaps of Svere Kongsgaard from Norway. Those interested in ski instruc- tioni may sign up for the class they are interested in as well as learn more about the ski instruction pro- gram for the coming season. All skiers may join the ski club at this meeting as well as obtain the sea- son tickets for the ski tow.
