GREEN, Agent—Juneau—Phones 2 and 4 youth will probably be employed, {according to C. L. Anderson, direc- tor of the department. The employment >f young Alas- kans interésted in fisheries is in | line with department policy, Ander- son said. “Worging on the biological re- i search program will give them a chance to find out if they would like to go into that kind of work,” he said. “And the money they earn will enable them to study at schools of fisheries in the states.” Anderson said that the fisheries biologists hired by the department have had to be brought in from the states. He is looking forward to the time when Alaskans will be trained to do research on the prob- lems of Alaska’s major industry. Weidman has spent several fish- ing seasons on, the grounds with his father who is skipper of the trolling boat Helena. A senior at Juneau High School, Weidman is spending the summer weighing and measuring salmon re- ceived at the Juneau Cold Storage Company here. He is also taking scale samples from' the fish. The youth employed at Ketchikan is doing the same at the cold stor- age plant there. The information they gather will be tabulated by the department biologists at the end of the season and will enable them to get more information on troll salmon than they, could get through tagging alone, Anderson said. 'NO NAVY SHIP TO VISIT JUNEAU ON JULY FOURTH No U.S. Navy sfil'p" will be avail- able for a Fourth of July visit to Juneau this year, Mayor Waino Hendrickson was informed by mail today. 3 The' Navy gave as its reason the Training Corps cruises are sched- uled during that period, and prom- ised that the commander in chiet of the Pacific Fleet will endeavor to ‘'schedule a visit to Juneau by the U.8.8. Juneau wnen praciicable. Mayor Hendrickson had requested that the cruiser visit its namesake rt.
