WEDNESDAY, JUNE 7, 195 RAINIERS VICTORS OVER SEALS 3T0 1; 2-RUN RALLY, 8TH (By the Associated Press) A pair of ex-American Leaguers loomed large on Pacitic ' Coast League diamonds last night. Cast in the hero role was Dick ‘Wakefield, the ex-Detroit and New York bonus baby. He slammed a two-run homer in Oakland’s 6-2 win over Sacramento. But the goat horns went W Johhny Berardino, former Cleve- lander. Berardino, a second base- man by trade for 10 years, cavortec at shortstop for San Diego last night. From that post, his wilc throw in the ninth let Hollywooc edge the Padres 3-2 and take a ful game lead in the PCL race. ‘Wakefield’s blast—his first round- tripper for the Oaks—carried over the left field fence. It was his only hit of the game. He had hit sately twice Sunday in his debut. He played left field in his first full game last night. It was the third homer of the game—previously George Metkovich of the Oaks and Manager Joe Marty of the Sacs had unloaded. George Bamberger was the winner and Bob Gillespie the loser as Oakland moved to within two games of sec- ond place San Diego. Seattle’s rambunctious Rainiers hustled to a 3-1 victory over San Francisco, dropping the Seals a point behind Los Angeles into sixth place. Al Gerhaeuser bested Harry Feld- man in a good twirling tussle, al- lowing five hits to six for the Seal flinger. Feldman hit a homer for the Seals’ lone tally, but Ger- heauser started the winning two- run Rainier rally in the eighth with a double.
