A detailed plan of action was be- ing worked out at the State De- partment today by the highest offi- cials. Authorities said the govern- ment would act quickly once a final decision had been made. A two-thirds cut in the American FRIDAY, MAY 12, 1950 staff was ordered by the Prague government April 28 on the ground that Americans Were Working against the security of the Czech Communist state. This week Ambassador Ellis O. Briggs was told that the period for cutting the staff would expire at midnight tonight and that the Czech government would not be respon- sible for the safety of American of- ficials after that. Briggs immedi- ately ordered 40 of the 60 American diplomatic employees out of the country. (Berlin dispatches said the first contingent left today—10 Embassy staff members and their depen- dents, a group of about 30 persons in all.
