FRIDAY, AUGUST 5, 1949 From &agway (July 31, 1949) ‘The Presbyterian Church was the scene of a very lovely candlelight ceremeny Saturday evening, July 30, when Miss Viola Hilda Sullivan was united in marriage with Mr. Raymond Frank Carder, the Rev. John Dodge officiating. ‘The church was beautifully dec- orated with honeysuckle, ferns, Dy- ea daisies and delphinium, the altar being banked with ferns and dais- | ies and lighted by white tapers in tall candelabras. Immediately before the ceremony Mr. Richard Miller gave a short re- cital of wedding music on the Hammond organ, and Miss Cecelia Selmer lighted the tapers. Mr. 2 | John St. Martin sang “Because.” The lovely bride, attired in a suit of winter white with blue accessor- |fes, wore a corsage of pink and white roses and carried a white Bible with white ribbon streamers tied with forget-me-nots. She was given in marriage by Dr. P. I. | Dahl, who had been the attending physician when she was born. She was attended by Mrs. Marvin Tay- | lor, who wore a blue and grey suit with white accessories. She wore a | corsage of white carnations. M. | John Burnham acted as 'best man for Mr. Carder. Immediately following the cere- mony a reception was held at the home of the bride’s mother, Mrs. | Mary Sullivan. Mrs. Sullivan was assisted by Mrs. Joseph Sheleby, Mrs. J. C. Hoyt and Mrs. Max Kopanski. Mrs. Hal Johnston pour- ed at the coffee table, and Mrs. W. W. Patterson served at the punch bowl. Mrs. Frank Gentile | was in charge of the wedding gifts and Miss Cecelia Selmer of the | wedding register. Mrs. Donald Mackay, Mrs. Hal Johnston and Mrs. Osborne Selmer decorated the church. The bride’s | brothers, Frank and Lloyd acted as ushers. Miss Sullivan, who was born in Skagway and graduated from the Skagway High School, has been | employed this past year in Juneau iby the U. S. Bureau of Mines. Mr. Carder, the son of Mr. and Mrs. R. D. Carder of Silver Springs, Colorado, came to Skagway three years ago. He is employed by the Alaska Road Commission. The young couple plan to make their home in Dyea, on Mr. Carter's homestead near West Creek. The Florence Circle met Wed- nesday afternoon, July 20, at the |home of Mrs. P. I. Dahl, with 18 members present. A candy sale was iplanned for Thursday afternoon July 28, in the lobby of the Gold- ien North Hotel. A daughter was born to Mr. and Mrs. Howard Johnson Wednesday, July 20, at 3:15 p. m. The baby, weighing seven pounds four ounces at birth, has been named Patricia Marlene. A meeting of the Skagway | Chamber of Commerce was held Wednesday evening at the Skagway Grill. The guests were Capt. Gay Hughes of the SS Princess Kath- leen, Capt. Hansen of the ACS, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Blanchard and Miss Barbara Blanchard of New York City. A new member, Frank Hous- ley, was introduced. Mrs, M. Ko- panski reported that work had been done on the old cemetery with the thelp of the Boy Scouts. Head- boards had been set up and trails raked out. Rev. Dodge stated that a map of the city had been made with a list of the places to see and copies had been made and dis- tributed to the crews of the Canad- ian cruisers which were in port. He was given a vote of thanks. A letter had been received from the Panhandle Outdoor Sportsman’s Club of Amarillo, Texas, stating jthat a party of five would be vis- iting Skagway in the near future. A discussion was held on the +Jones Act. Brown spent from Wed- nesday until Friday in Whitehorse consulting an oculist. Mrs. E. A. Larson entertained a number of friends Thursday eve- ning, July 21, to compliment Mrs. C. A. Carrol who is moving to Juneau in the near future. Tripoli was played, and delicious refresh- ments were served. Miss Joyce Riewe went to White- horse Friday to consult an oculist. A special election held Friday, offiges of mayor and city council- men failed te be ratified by the voters ‘of Skagway. The failure of this election to carry leaves the city in a very confused condition. FISH LANDINGS The ony landing made this morn- ing was 20,000 pounds of black cod from the Big Emma (Tom Ness).
