Oct. 23 —(®—The Board of Geographic Names said to- day it is studying a pProposal that {ennecott be ruled the correct pelling for a southern Alaska vil- lage east of Valdez. Many maps now list the town as Kennecott, perhaps because it is the site of operations of the Ken- necott Copper Mining Co. However, the village is at the eastern edge of Kennicott Glacier. The Loard said both were named for an Alaskan settler of the 1880s. Kennicott also has been confused on some maps with the village of McCarthy, which is four miles to the south. An official raling on the spelling is expected next month.
