S. Forest Services stopped a serious forest fire from breaking out near Tenakee yesterday afternoon. Captain Bud Brown, of Alaska Coastal, spotted the blaze on his 5 oclock run to Sitka and radioed back to Juneau. In less than an hour, the Forest Service had its first crew on the scene with fire-fighting equipment. The fire spread up the steep mountainside from the heach heavily wooded area. The fire was under control by 8 o'clock last eve- ning and the crews will continue fire Leing completey o’ The fire broke out on Tenakee I: let, two miles from the town of Tenakee. An onshore wind drove the { flames up the steep mountainside and the Forest Service crew reported flames as high as 50 and 60 feet when they first arrived.
