OF EXPERIMENT STATION [T The Association of Land-Grant Colleges and Universities has asked Secretary of Agriculture Anderson for return of the Alaska Experiment University of Alaska. ‘This action was taken in the form of a resolution in connection with the action of Congress early in 1947 in transferring to the Secretary from the University the use of equipment and other facilities, buildings and grounds of the Territorial Agricul- ture Experiment Station and also |transferring the unexpended funds appropriated by the Territory of Alaska for use in development of experiment station The resolution reads in part as follows “The Association questions wheth- | er so drastic a course is well-advised Jor necessary to accomplish the fur- |therance of agricultural research |and development in Alaska. The ac- tion seems clearly a serious viola- tion of long-established principles of responsible cooperation between the Land-Grant institutions and the Secretary of Agriculture through the Office of Experiment Stations. | “We deplore the action in Al- aska as we would had it Leen taken in any of the 48 States. . . “This Association repectfully ex- presses the hope that early action may be taken fo return the propert- ies, materials and funds of the Ter- ritorial Agricultural Experiment Sta- tion to the University of Alaska; and that the usual and regular relation- |ships through the Office of Fxxx Ti- | ment Stations will be resumed | ““The Association further nqu(st% |that the Secretary of Agriculture, at |the earliest possible moment, take ithe initiative and responsibility of recommending to the Congress ac- tion to this effect.” Last night Sandra Junge was honored with a birthday dinner at | |the home of Mr. and Mrs. B.
