He brought out the envelope because he thought the officers knew where it was hidden and thought Botelhc had been reaching for it. 1 Blocd Stains | 5—At least one of the apparent blood stains on the coat were on the right sleeve and Botelho is sure that Meeks' is right-handed. Also, Gilligan said that Meeks was not wearing the coat Sunday eve- ning when the defendant had a scuffle with Peter Vincent. 6—The top $100 bill in the en- velope showed a dark stain that ap- peared to be blood. | 7"—Serial numbers of fifteen $100 bills in the envelope were then taken by the officers. (The bills !were identified by the witness from |a memorandum of the serial num- 'bers and were {placed in evidence.) | 8—After a test of his ability to read the evening paper, Meeks was questioned regarding his acquaint- ance with Campbell. (Botelho indi- cated under cross-examination that the headlines of that newspaper of | December 10 mentioned Campbell’s l name in connection with the find- | ing of the corpse.) il 9—Meeks replied that he did not 'know Campbell; “had never met the man.” | 10—Meeks did not reply to a |question as to how blood came to| be on the coat. | 11—Meeks said he had won the | money gambling at Anchorage and had wired for it. 12—The money was then returned ito Meeks and he was not arrested at that time—because the officers \had no reason to arrest him at that | time. ! » 13—The coat, the witness believ- |ed had been sent to Washington, D. C, for test for blood at the FBI laboratory. |sion this morning, Judge Kehoe |stated that he intends to hear the Meeks trial all day Saturday—to= MOIToW. i S S DBIN'( KINF BLACK LABEL!
