R. Durkee, Federal Works Agency Division Engineer with headquarters in Seattle, has left here for Anchorage and Seward to collect final data for a special Alaska public works bill to be in- troduced in Congress. i Durkee has worked on the pro-| ject for several months with Earl McGinty, FWA district engineer stationed in Juneau. He said that if facts and figures are given Con- gress while Alaska is a popular subjeet there the appropriations | measure may pass. He added that he hopes to present his findings to George Field, FWA Commis- | sioner, and Gen. Philip Fleming, FWA Administrator, in Washington, D. C, by March 15 Enroute through the Territory Durkee will survey operations of the FWA planning program for which Alaska has been advanced $145,000. Of that sum, $100,000 is already in circulation with the re- mainder to be distributed by the end of March. Durkee added that Juneau has received $16,000 on four applica- tions for an airport, terminal build- ing, library, fire station and city hall, and that the money distributed to other communities will be spent on similar projects | On his return Durkee will Sl()p} at Ketchikan.
