TRAINING COURSE FOR GIRL ™ SCOUT WORKERS PLANNED A complete Teport on Girl Scout | camp activities for the 1945 camp- |ing season is to be given by Mrs. Edwin Johnson, Camp Chairman, at {the Girl Scout Council meeting to ipe held Monday afternoon, at 2 jc'clock in the penthouse of the A.E. |L. and P. building. | In addition to Mrs. Johnson's re- port, thére are several other impor- tant matters to be discussed, accord- ing to Scout Commissioner Mrs. Scott Murphy, who urges all Cauncn! members to attend. | Mre. Albert Crittenden, Field! | Representative for the National Girl| |€ccut Council, who was in Juneau riefly a short time ago, will return to Juneau the second week in Sep- tember, at which time, Monday and Tuesday, Sept. 10 and 11, she will give an intensive two-day course of | training for Leaders, Assistant Lead- ! |ers, Council and Council Commit- |tce members, and Troop Committee { members, ) An invitation to all women of the Gastineau Channel area who are in-! terested in Girl Scoutipg to take this course of training has been ex- tznded by the Council, through Mrs. Murphy. Mothers of Girl Scouts are particularly asked to take this oppor- tunity of learning more of Stouting, and what it means. This is the first time this training ccurse for Girl Scout Council mem- s and Leaders has been made available in Alaska, and it is hoped tE#® as many women as possible will make the most of this opportunity. | Even though’it may not be possible for each one taking the course to take an active part in the Scouting program immediatey after taking the course, the Council believes it would be very desirable to have trained workers available who could be call- ed upon at a later date, or perhaps to fill in for a short time when {needed. Arrangements for taking the training course may be made by calling Mrs. Murphy, 676, Mrs. Hugh Wade, Black 200, or Mrs. W. Mr. Fawcett had made Hoonah his home almost his entire life, seldom leaving that locality. For years he cccupied the position of Chief of the Hoonah Natives, and was the last of a long line of Chiefs. When ized and elected a Mayor and City Couneil, he surrendered all his civic authority to that body. and though he has been in ill hcalth for several years, his fondest hope was that he might live to see our enemies defeated. Death claim- ed him on the day that the surren- der of Japan was officially announ- ccd. When he was informed of this good news, he fell peacefully asleep. The remains will be Hoonah for burial beside other for- | mer Chijefs. | Surviving him are his wife, Mary | | Fawcett, onz daughter, Mrs. Amie Knudson, of Excursion Inlet, one son, Johnnie Fawcett, of Hoonah, a niece, Mrs. Jessie Wilson of Juneau and many distant relatives. e — ATTENTION ALL O.
