Naghel de- clared. It was decided to hold a meeting of the Taxpayers' Association next week, at a place and date to be columns of the newspapers. This meeting will be for the purpose.of electing an Executive Committee, as provided by the articles of asso- clation of the taxpayers, and having a general discussion of the whole subject of futurs assessments. The Committee feels that this is a’' very important matter, for the be made the basis of a valid future assessment roll, and that some def- inite policy should be inaugurated at once for the future, sald Mr. Naghel. The Executive Committee empha- sized the fact that the Taxpayers' Association does not intend to en- gage in partisan politics to the ex- tent of endorsing or opposing any particular group of candidates in elections, or any particular issue, except insofar as it affects the vital interests of the taxpayers in the matter of raising and expending funds of the city. The whole purpose of the Tax- payers’ Association is to be helpful to the city as a whole, and its elected officials. In other words, the Association has no project to favor, ho axe to gnnd, no particular project to op- pose as an Association, but that it out errors and in opposing policies which result in injustice, ineguity and unfairness, the Committee spokestman stated. - TWOBABESDIE IN CRAIG FIRE 18— KETCHIKAN, Alaska, Aug. nesday night at Craig when fire 4,destmyed a frame building. An indignation meeting of chief petty officers of the flagship, which expressed apparently the views of all enlisted gen aboard, said addi- tionally: " “The activities of those Market Street commandos does not repre- sent the true Navy. They very like- ly waged little war outside port. “Radio reports say they were ac- ccmpanied by hobby-socked girls, but we think that probably the, sailors wore bobby-socks, too.” ——————— REYNOLDS LEAVES Percy Reynolds, owner of Percy’s Cafe, flew to Seattle yesterday via Pan American, for a short business trip of a week. ——eee— WRIGHT HERE Frank Wright, of Sitka, yesterday and is 2 guest Baranof Hotel. e o000 e ) WEATHE&REPORT BUREAU) Temperatures for 24-Hour Period Ending 7:30 0'Clock This Morning ° e o In Juneau—Maximum, 55; minimum, 43.
