The RADIO DEPARTMENT of the ELECTRIC SERVICE SHOP has been sold, effective MON- DAY, NOVEMBER 13, to MR. D. C. (JIM) LANGDON of this city. Due to the demand for work in the ELECTRICAL CONTRACTING end of my business in which I have participated in Juneau for the past nine years, I find 1 cannot keep both the RADIO and ELECTRICAL departments functioning smoothly, and for that reason have sold the RADIO DEPART- MENT to Mr. Langdon, who has been in charge of radio communications and maintenance for Pan American Airways here for a number of years. He will operate the business under the name of “Alaska Electronics” I will of course remain in the ELECTRICAL CONTRACTING BUSINESS as in the past. I will be in town for several weeks before returning to Whittier where I haye a contract with the Columbia Lumber Company in connection with the new sawmill being built there. Mrs. McKinley will remain in the store to handle the ELECTRICAL end of the business and assist Mr. Langdon. All repair jobs now in the shop will be completed under my supervision. J. W. If you don’t want the Department of Interior to set up vast Indian reserva- tions in Southeastern Alaska, including the cities of Juneau and Ketchikan and nearly all adjoining fishing grounds, timberlands, mining property, water power sites, hunting and trapping areas and garden sites— If you don’t want the future of Alagka dealt a death blow— If you believe congress meant for ALL Alaskans to haye a part in its devel- opment when it enacted laws for homesteading, and Jaws preserving sub- merged lands for the future state— If you don’t want the future state robbed of its chief sources of tax revenue— If you want jobs for Alaskans in mines, fisheries, lumber mills and the coming paper industry preserved— If you believe Alaska should GO AHEAD teward more progress during this era of liberation, instead of reverting to a third rate colony— If you believe the Indians should use the legal proeess set up by special act of congress through the U. S. court of cluhgs to determine any anceptml If you oppose further land raids by the Department of Interior tvhich soon may want to give Alaska’s oil and coal lands te the natives— THEN USE YOUR Rl(}fiT TO PROTEST! The treaty of cession, under which Alaska was purchased from Russia, provides title to Alaska be transferred to the U.YS. A— “FREE AND UNENCUMBERED BY ANY RESERVATIONS, PRIVILEGES, FRANCHISES, GRANTS OR POSSESSION.” —(Article VI, Treaty of March 30, 1867) Secretary Ickes apparently fears a court test of the aboriginal claims. He failed in the courts to hold back development and use of the Richardson highway, failed in the courts to eject Walter Pippel, successful Matanuska colony farmer who wanted to buy his farm at once; Le failed in the courts to collect fishing license fees from soldiers domieiled in Alaska for a year. He knows he can’t overrule congress’ will through the court of claims so is attempting to do it through departmental order.
