The largest amount that can be purchased in any one year is $5,000, which is enough to provide for 99 per cent of those who depend upon wages or salaries for income. Series F and G bonds, offered to larger investors, carry lower interest. rates. Yet corporations and indi- viduals, with large amounts of cap- | ital at their disposal, have actually | made larger investments in F and G bonds, combined, than the gen- eral public nas made in the more attractive Series E bonds, accord- {ing to treasury department reports | as of May 1. That picture is changing. Since January 1, Series E totals have been pulling ahead ot F and G. They will | go still farther ahead as more men |and women depending upon wages }and salaries recognize that bond | purchases spell both patriotism and | personal advantage. Some congressmen regard volun- | tary savings as ineffective and are | proposing a program of enforced | savings.
