CANNERY CONTRACT GETS O.K. Machinists Union Accepts Wages, Hours, Working Conditions of 1939 SEATTLE, Jan. 29.—L. A. Sand- vigen, Business Agent, said the Can- nery Works Division, Machinists Union Local No. 79, has voted not to reopen the 1939 labor contract with the Alaska cannery operators and will aceept last year's hours and wages, also working conditions, for 1940, Sandvigen said: “We received a substantial wage increase last year and we are recognizing the hardship meted out to the industry through tishing curtallments to be enforced by the Bureau of Fisheries in Al- aska.” Sandvigen said the union is pro- testing to Secretary of Interior Har- old L. Ickes on the “drastic and un- reasonable curtailment which works a hardship not only in Alaska but also in Seattle.
