Ed Olson, Mining Man, Going Below Mr. and Mrs. Ed Olson were plane arrivals from Fairbanks over the weekend, on their way to the States to spend the winter. Olson is a prominent mine opera- tor, operating at Flat and in Good- news Bay with his brother Andrew, and associates. At Goodnews Bay, the Olsons are partners in the Goodnews Bay Mining Company, operating a drag- line and a seven cubic foot bucket dredge on platinum ground. | Olson said the big dredge took out over a million yards of dirt this summer and for its first complete season “did a good job,” taking out about 7,000 yards of dirt a day. In the Olson dragline operations at Flat, a good season was experi- enced, with water conditions favor- able for the best part of the sum- mer. With regards to new development plans, Olson said the Goodnews Bay Mining Comzany is planning to drill ground on the Slug River in the Goodnews Bay area. That couniry was drilled before, but was not drilled adcquately, Ol- son. believes. Mr. and Mrs. Olson are guests an the Gastineau Hotel and'will sail| south on the next boat.
