There was no response. Long and loud they knocked but there was no response. The aggrieved tennant conceived a bright idea. While her husband guarded the doorway, she procured a padlock and fastened it securely on Landlord Vagge's door, and pro- ceeded to go on home to bed. “I'll see Mr. Vagge in the morn- ing or know why,” said Mrs. Ab- raham to her husband. This morning hearing a loud com- motion in the Vagge apartment, Mrs. Abraham decided it must be her imprisoned landlord wanting to be released so she sallied forth to find out, primarily, about the wa- ter, but also, she explained, to let Landlord Vagge out. Just what happened when she re- moved the padlock from the door probably will remain a mooted ques- tion until it is aired in court. Landlord Vagge, who arrived in the District Attorneys’ office in a short time, later declared Mrs. Ab- raham assaulted him with a hammer. Mrs. Abraham, who ar- rived a little while later with Dep- uty Marshal John McCormick, says the landlord attacked her with a crowbar when she asked about the water and in the melee the ham- mer came into play. Mr. Warrack will start clearing the site and start excavating for the new Federal Building in Ketchikan, the contract for which was recently awarded to the Warrack Construc- tion Company. The site of the new building is at the end of Mission Street in Ket- chikan, and the block of property, owned by the government, upon part of which the $360,000 syruciure will be built is 200 feet by 200 feet Mr. Warrack expects to have the preliminary work under way in a few days and return to Juneau by the end of the week.
