YOU'RE RIGHT, SHERIFF .. DAN'L BARLOW 'MUST BE A'LITTLE TETCHED IN TH HEAD” NOW_LISSEN .- ‘W, J, LAKE €0, T0 DISTRIBUTE NW. PRODUCTS & Entire Output of Nort! west Distilleries, Inc., Is Secured The appointment of W. J. Lakc #4& Co., as distributors for the en- ' itire output of the Northwest Dis- “Itilleries, Tnc., was anrounced today !.by Carl Wirth, Alaska Distributor. T “We feel that the location of this distillery in Washington will __enable us to better ‘cooperate with “" our dealers throughout the North- west and Alaska,” said Mr. Lake. president of the W. J. Lake & Company. “There are only three grain distilleries in operation in Western America, the nearest .o Seattle being in Illinois on the east and in California on the south. Tt will be a great advantage to be oy ,able to ship directly from Seattle and will considerably lessen trans- portation expenses.” Operating under one of but three federal distillery permits issued in Western America, the Northwest Distilleries, located on Westlake, North, in Seattle, has a capacity of 560,000 gallens per year. They produce a full line of distilled. li- quors, including bourben, rye and mmscotch whiskies, gins, cordials and assorted liqueurs, according to the officials of the Northwest Dis- tilleries. The company holds three eral permits, one distilling per- mit, a rectifying permit and a li- quor importing permit, as well as the distillery permit issued by the ~ ~State of Washington. Utilizing the most modern equip- ! ment and advanced methods, the new distillery has been declared by distillation authorities who have inspected it to be one of the finest | and most efficient liquor producing { units in the country. Among the distinctive features are an airblast ¢ conveyor which elevates a carload of grain seven stories in two hours «-and a yeast room where all yeast required by the operations is made in the plant from yeast cultures by the Pasteur and Hanson meth- od. The entire plant is electrically controlled with eletric tell-tale ap- paratus, scientifically con trolling each operation. A fully equipped and expertly manned laboratory is maintained under the direction of a famous French chemist to as- sure uniformity of production and quality. i The concern, a Washington cor- poration, has used local labor and materials throughout the con- t struction and equipment of the ~-plant and intends to continue the use of Northwest products when- ever possible in its liquor produc- tion, and will make a special effort to serve Alaskan trade. fed- e} | suited for the manufacture of dis- }~tilled liquors, and the mineral-free waters of Cedar River will further | { pssure a quality of product that will compare favorably with the finest produced in. the country. Mr. Lake reports that contacts already established by his organ- ization assure a good market for the new Northwest and Alaska markets. ” L o o oo Lo The kinkajou, or “teddy bear,” belongs to the raccoon family and ' makes an excellent pet. n | Tests have disclosed that North- | western grown grains are ideally | THE DAILY ALASKA EMPIRE, MONDAY, DEC. 10, 1934.
